34 and a fan since 1988. I don't get all the bashing this movie has taken, with the Razzies and what-not, and I'm not some fanboy looking at it through rose-colored glasses. I waited to see the film on Netflix because of all the bad publicity. The film is flawed, but it's just not that bad. Naysayers on imdb are to be expected, but this film really got pummeled by just about everyone. I just don't get it.
Yes, there are obviously weaknesses, but the film entertained me, and the manipulations to the source material didn't anger me enough to let it affect my enjoyment.
I'm also not a fan of making April a part of the origin. Maybe the turtles being her pets wasn't *that* bad, but having her save them from the fire and toss them into the sewer was ridiculous. Why wouldn't she just take them home?
The ninjitsu book was probably the single thing that annoyed me most. It made absolutely no sense, and was far inferior to the actual story. How can someone become a ninja master just by reading a book with some diagrams? Absurd.
Other than that, to me, the only weaknesses were Megan Fox's acting (which is to be expected) and some bumpy dialogue. I thought the humor was funny enough, the action was fun, and the effects were solid. I liked the turtles' design, unlike many. Will Arnett and Bill Fitchner were solid. I think Shredder was a bit over-designed, but it made him more intimidating.
I was happy enough with the film that I'll go see the sequel in theaters rather than waiting for Netflix.
