Very good! 7/10 *No Spoilers*

For anyone on the fence about watching this movie, the reviews (all positive) have it right.

I've been into Asian melodramas for a very long time, starting with the quintessential My Sassy Girl. I know "Sassy" is Korean, but I'm clumping it all under Asian, since there's a strong and distinct comparison against American melodramas -- which is basically anything with Matthew McConaughey in it.

Around the mid-00s, I took a break from the Asian melodramas as I felt they started becoming repetitive. I'm glad I took a chance on "Au revoir Taipei" -- it's a great reintroduction for me.

This movie really excels in the story. To be honest, the characters had very little depth -- I saw no award-winning performances. That's not to say I didn't care for them -- by the end, I was happy with how things turned out. The plot, itself, has been done before, at least in part -- "Date Night" being the most recent. But you know what they say -- there's really only a handful of plots out there. It's really up to the story to make it unique.

This would be great to watch with a significant other. You'll notice how the director/writer portrays the many sides of love through the various characters.

Overall, I give it a 7/10. The cinematography was well done. The score/soundtrack was fun. Though I've never been to Taipei, this movie makes it look like a city I'd love to visit.
