Does it make me a bad person if I would have slapped her too?

Both characters were terminally irredeemable in this film, but at the very beginning I came very close to feeling that when Cliche-war-veteran-husband (I don't think names are all that important here) hit his wife I was kind of rooting for him. Did anyone else feel the same way?

Trust me, you're not missing out. I wish I had had the good sense to follow your lead. 

Disappointed as I love the original. Was she like that in the book cos that's not a very good opening to any film.

It's not a book, it's a short story and yes the opening is pretty much verbatim to the story. In fact, from what I recall the whole movie is pretty much dead on to the story, certainly way more than the original.

That said I remember the original as being a better movie.

Also, yeah the wife is pretty annoying throughout the movie and I wanted to slap her myself. I don't even know why they're married especially give the way interracial marriage was treated in America back then.

I found her complaining amusing and laughed at almost everything she said. She had some real golden quotes. But then again I have a strange sense of humor.

I have similar dark humor so i get you. I would have maybe not slapped like the TS was saying but at least i yell "stop calling me a killer SHUT UP"

Rob Zombie is one of the greatest directors today

You're definitely not the only one who wanted to slap her dumb mouth shut. Shrill yappity harpies like her make me glad I'm gay.
