How did the little boy stay young?

Okay I just saw the remake on syfy a few days ago and only saw the original years ago and have not read the story. I'm curious though how the little boy stayed forever young. Was that ever explained in the story? Also that scene where the guy and girl were screwing in front of the rest of the kids was weird.

The scary clown doll is hiding under my bed.

David is in the beginning he was sacrificed when he got older and Isaac replaced him.
