1) Gears of War 1. Started it all. The Kryll and Berserker sequences were alot of fun. Liked the darker, more ambiguous aspect of the original. Played the hell out of the online through splitscreen. The maps were all very memorable. The campaign was to the point and fun all the way through. The music + fight itself at the end with Raam was classic. Cole Train Rap.
2) Gears of War 3. Excellent graphics. Horde mode almost perfected. Retro Lancer is awesome. The chicks finally enter the fray...and Ice T too. Pretty much took care of all the problems from the last two games. 4 player campaign was a lot of fun. Awesome pre-order content. Resolved the series pretty much. My only problem with it really is that all my friends were done with Gears by the time it came out thanks to us all playing the hell out of Gears 2, so I never got to spend the time with it that I should have.
3) Gears of War 2. Hated about half the maps. Great dlc Introduced horde; love at first sight. Hated the introduction of wall bombs. Loved the new chainsaw duels. The story had a little too much cave dwelling for my tastes. Probably played this one more than the others combined thanks to my cousins and trying to get all those Horde achievements.
4) Gears of War: Judgement. Felt more like an expansion to 3; not a full game, which is no excuse since they made Gears 2 in a year without having that problem. More awesome graphics. Very fun, fast paced take on the series. The multiplayer felt like a more constricted version of horde. The story was very short but cool. I liked all of the new characters. Baird and Cole finally got to run the show. The optional modifiers to each campaign segment to make it tougher was my favorite aspect of the game.
all in all, the moral of the story is 1)Gears at its worst is still great, and 2)the more your buddies are into the game with you, the better.
