I might have missed something, and please correct me if I did, but:
1) Why did Umay's father make that trip to Turkey?
2) Was it mentioned where Umay was leaving? I was thinking another German city, or perhaps a neighboring EU country

One of the things I like about these movies is that they assume some intelligence on the part of the audience. Not everything has to be spelt out in long-winded dialog, as in your typical Hollywood movie.
Although in this case, it looks like the film-makers may have stretched the limits....
Kader goes back to Turkey to see his father to see what he has to do to restore the family's honour. Adhering to tradition, the father tells him that Umay must be killed. Next we see Kader sitting with his 2 sons, with all the attention directed to the younger boy. Obviously, he's the one who's been assigned to perform the deed.
The question I had was - did the mother know? At the hospital, Umay's father reaches out to her and says "Please forgive me. Now go", knowing as he does what is about to occur. But I wondered if the mother also knew. There's no real indication given one way or the other.
Great response eucalyptus9, thank you. I also didn't understand why the father went to Turkey. But seeing this thread, the light bulb went on. :-D Did not realize that the youngest son had been asked to kill Umay, but of course that makes sense now.
As for ryulu999's second question, I was thinking Umay would just move to another German city (I was thinking, "pick the one FARTHEST away from your family!"). I assumed that European countries are like North American countries and one cannot move to another country unless they have special permission from the government.
