Why cover Pink's 'Get the party started'?

Most kids don't know about the song and most of the parents (unless they were teen parents or got pregnant in their early 20's) aren't nostalgic for the song so it's pretty much a lose-lose situation.

I call movies that are considered 'bad' hated movies.

It's a great song...I wouldn't care if "kids don't know about it" or parents aren't particularly "nostalgic" for it. Now both will be exposed to it. Ta-da! :D I'm 24 and "Misundazstood" remains my favorite P!nk album.

I hear this song on the radio quite often, too. It's hardly an obscure or unknown one (not that I'd have an issue with such a song, either.)

I guess I can see where you're coming from...

It was meant to be a joke. That song would never be used for the title sequence of a 007 movie, so they used it here. Since we're on the subject, it's most likely that the kids who went to see this in theatres knew the song as opposed to anything related to 007.

This film's opening titles spoof the classic opening titles of James Bond films, with pets replacing women. The track over the titles is Shirley Bassey's 2007 hit recording of Pink's "Get The Party Started" (predating this 2010 movie by three years). Bassey is the singer most associated with the early James Bond theme songs (Goldfinger, Diamonds Are Forever, Moonraker). Kitty Galore says "Let's get the party started!" during this Bond-style comedy film. It's the perfect choice for an opening song, whether you recognize all the connections or not. 

I think that Shirley Bassey does a good version of the song in this. I didn't catch whether she used Pink's "kissing my Mercedes-Benz" line in her rendering of it.

A better question is why cover War's "Why Can't We Be Friends?"
