Ok just got done watching this and I think I liked it, LOL I definetly need to watch it a second time to try and fit it all together but the fact I'm willing to says something.

I didn't like the jumping around in the timeline but I think it will make more sense on a second watch. One thing I don't get is there was a line that the demon Morbius said to Travis at one point, something like "you're living in two timelines" What was that about? If I get that will the rest make more sense?

And where did Suicidal pigman come in? I get that Morbius wants revenge for his murder and recruits Travis to help him and I get that Travis wants to find out what happened to his brother. So did the thing with his brother & pigman just happen so that there'd be motivation for Travis to help Morbius? Or was there really a reason for it?

The Ketamine thing, when the girl pays Travis she also gives him a vial of Ketamine. He mentions using it to get off heroin, but there's no heroin use shown or mentioned in the rest of the film so why was this even included? Did I miss something? Bugs me because Ketamine is usually seen as a drug of enlightenment and it seems kind of demonized here and for no reason.

I have one more question that kind of pertains to this but it gets a topic of its own because it needs it.

Overall I liked this flick, thought the acting was good, the FX were decent. I don't really get where people call it a gorefest though, hell saw or hostel were much more over the top?? FX here were warranted and well done and no shock to any horror fan so why are people so grossed out by it? Maybe I saw a cut version?

Pigman was another demon, one of self loathing. The brother, Thomas, was depressed and hated his life because of his handicaps. He already had suicidal tendencies in him and sensing that negativity the demon, suicidal pigman, was drawn to the boy ready to exploit his weakness. That's really the only reason I picked up on for him being in the movie. You could argue that Morbius orchestrated the events of Thomas' suicide to recruit Travis, but that seems unlikely. Morbius warned Travis of the pigman (referring to the other demon as the "Man in the TV") and what was happening with Thomas so it seemed like Morbius and pigman were in competition for souls. Morbius had already warned Travis that he had put his demonic mark on him thus implying that if Travis conspired with another demon the consequences would be hell (pun intended).

Ketamine is not a good drug. A drug of enlightenment? Not always. It is a powerful and dangerous psychotropic. Ever been in a K-hole? When I was a teenager I experimented with a number of drugs and Ketamine was one of them. The first time (and last) I took it I fell into a K-hole. The effects of a K-hole depend on the dosage taken and your state of mind before taking it. Generally it is a sensory deprived dis-associative state similar to schizophrenia with unreal hallucinations. In a K-hole you experience internal hallucinations all the while losing your sense of individual identity and the external world. As I said the effects all depends on your state of mind so some people may see God or fly through the cosmos, but if you're in a negative state of mind than a K-hole can be worse than anything words can describe. That's what happened to me. Travis was a spiritually weak man which is why when he went into his k-hole he connected with demons as opposed to angels or something benign. If the drug is demonized it's for good reason, at least I think so.

I'm not sure if there is a cut version. After Travis returned from his encounter with Morbius he finds the book and begins to practice his art of necromancing on the body of the guy Thomas killed. In one of the scenes Travis removes the intestines from the corpse. Then at the end there's the demon eating the corpse while talking to Morbius. Did you see those scenes? If you did then you saw the same version as me. If I had to take a guess those scenes are why some people would call this movie a "gorefest". I'm a horror fanatic so I agree with you and don't see this movie on the level of saw or hostel, but people who aren't horror fans and aren't used to the graphic side of the genre might over exaggerate the level of graphic violence in the film. While it might be a gorefest for them, there shouldn't be anything surprising in this film for horror fans.

Thanks, nice to see another viewers thoughts on it.

I've always enjoyed the K-hole but I learned many years ago as a teen to really gage your setting and mood before indulging in anything psychotropic! So it can be used as good or bad, I get that but never heard it used by anyone to get off heroin, two completely different classes of drugs so that still confuses me. and the fact there was no other mention of heroin in the film.

Yup saw the same version, guess we're just desensitized to it. i can see people not into horror being grossed out but then again wouldn't think they'd be watching it?

Anyway thanks for your insights!

On another hand, maybe the timeline confused me, but I'm not even sur of what happened to Hagen. He was send by Travis, but none of Travis'goal were fulfilled, right ? He did not get his brother back. Did I miss something ?

I just saw the scene after the Mr. Skinny Show. Why would anyone submit themselves to torture like that, and pay for it? I'm familiar with the BDSM scene, but needles in your gums? Also that girl's screams could peel paint of the walls, lol.

I helped run the smoke machine for the prison camp scene and I didn't make it into the credits. The smoke dude was doing other stuff so I ran it, and even helped make the machine work better (for this movie and future ones) by suggesting dryer tube to duct the smoke in from farther out.

I thought this was my 'In' to the Screen Actors Guild.

It was butt cold out there too...

Bummer.

You should read this:

It's Pearry Teo's notes on this film. The guy is really smart!

Almost a year later but who cares. As soon as I saw that Travis had been in Morbeus' bar I was won over. The movie was artsy and frightening altogether. I assume that Thomas really did kill himself; Travis wasn't allowed to find him because he made a deal with he11 and that always ends up badly. What he should have done was stop taking that damn ketamine after his first descent into hell.

Lois & Clark 4EVER!!!
DC can SUCK IT!!!!
