It was peculiar. The narration was unusual and the director style was as well.
I did like it, but it seemed more of a movie made for TV than an actual movie.

As for the language, this was in Quebec city in 1981. No access to international TV and even though there was a good international accent on the federal tv channel, it didn't change much of the local accent.
I personnaly like the narration, as it represents exactly how the people talked as that time. Maybe in France, they should have subtitles for this movie.... or watch more old Quebec movie to learn the quebecois dialect.

I would be interested in knowing what are those "soap operas" from Quebec that has been imported to France because... hum... I don't know any.

Could you expand a little more on that?

i thought it was cute! it reminded me of being a kid in the late 70s. i remember those consumer distribution catalogs, i would pour over them for hours since we weren't in a city where you could shop. you would have to send away for things in the sears or cd catalogue. it was a different time i guess. i loved the photo of the filmmaker and the real anne tremblay at the end of the film.

I enjoyed it as well. Not sure what the original poster was expecting, but I found it to be a fun bit of nostalgia (I'm a little younger than the main characters but remember the '80s well). It has a solid rating score here (7.2), so it seems others liked it, too.

It didn't suck for me. Thought it well made and funny. 7/10.
