Who's going to distribute?

I see it doesn't have a distributor yet. I guess he will shop the film at cann? I hope he gets a better distributor than JCVD so maybe people can actually see it.

reply

Yes he will sell the rights at Cannes to a distributor. That distributor is then welcome to sell it on again but I don't think that will happen. I think JC is looking for a big studio to buy it.

reply

Since JCVD wrote, produced, directed and starred, I expect him to distribute it himself. On his bike.

reply

Its too early to tell since the movie has to screen for potential buyers. I would hope to hell Lions gate picks it up.

I don't mean to be offensive but that's REALLLLLY OPTIMISTIC. If the quality of the movie is fantastic then these studios should be snapping it up but I think that a DECENT dvd release by Warner Premiere or something with lots of promotion is better than a limited run where no promotion is done at all and the movie tanks like Peace Arch did with JCVD, I mean who the hell has heard of them? I know they are a small label but the reason they remain a small label is because they don't promote their movies. Lionsgate would be my FIRST choice to pick this one up, but I really think that's hoping for too much, who knows?? As long as Sony don't get this I'll be happy.
Van Damme will need to make at least five million from the selling because that's roughly how much he spent. Alternatively to get a theatrical run he could say, look here is this movie for nothing, guarantee me that you will release it in 2000 theatres.

reply

Yeah, I don't see Van Damme spending 10 million out of his own pocket to put TEP in 1000 or so theaters, and if it is dtv, let's pray that Sony does not get its grubby hands on TEP.

Now that is a plan!

That is a good way to do it because he gets a good payment for doing Universal Soldier: The Next Generation. On discussion with some other guys from the Van Damme forum it seems it might be better to promote it like hell and release it limited and hope it does really well, enough to expand it into a bigger release. If I'm totally honest, my expectations are that there is no way this is going completely DTV everywhere in the world and I don't think it will even go completely DTV in the US. I think a limited theatrical release is most likely.

I am hoping Lions Gate or even New Line Cinema.
Because the two of them were struggleing recently.
Lions Gate is or was in some trouble and last year New Line Cinema were also.
In other words maybe a company in trouble or are struggleing might consider taking a punt on this movie.

reply

New line was absorbed into Warner brothers.

Thanks for that.

I say offer the film to a major distributor for free. This way it guarantees a theatrical release.
