Patrick = most unlikeable/horrific character ever portrayed? (spoilers)

Well, maybe not the most horrific character ever portrayed in any TV show - but I found his character profoundly disturbing. From his obnoxious, cruel comments to his abuse of Pippa/gluttony and debasement of his character while they were trapped in that room and then finally to him cutting Grayson's body to pieces and that appalling death scene where he's still yelling awful things. I find him utterly terrifying. More, even, than the zombies.

Thoughts?

"I'm sorry I told you to f__k your bong."
"It's okay. I didn't."

He was funny as hell. His demise was a nod to Day of the dead.

Seeing as how he caused the rest of them to die, yes, I do find a character like his terrifying. Imagine being with someone like him in that sort of pandemic...I would probably kill him, just like some of them were contemplating on doing. Patrick was (and proved to be) a danger to all of them.

I actually loved how terrible he was. He threw a guy in a wheelchair to save himself! How much more of an a-hole can you get? I new from the start that he would likely get his comeupins, but I was also thinking that it would have been a twist from regular zombie movies if he had been the only one to survive. Like if his whole "bait and run" plan had worked, or if he had still been tied up as the zombies swarmed the house, and being locked in the bathroom made it impossible for the undead to get at him.

I never loved Eva Braun

Yes because guys in weelchairs are worth much more than everyone else and I'm sure you wouldn't do the same if your life was at stake and it was some stranger. Suck a penis you hypocrite. Oh and I can think of alot of worse things one can do.

reply

Haha. Are you in a wheelchair and demand to be treated like everyone else? I'm sorry. :)

I never loved Eva Braun
Spaceboy, you're sleepy now

That would kind of be a nod to the 1990 Tom Savini remake of "Night of the Living Dead," where the loathsome Harry survives the night (rather than Ben) and **SPOILERS** gets shot by Barbra at the end because she hates him so much.

reply

i was totally rooting for him, due to his hilarious and sacrastic remarks,

Joplin "whats the magic word"?
Patrick *beep* Off"

i justify my view due to the fact none of the other "housemates" were likeable, except space and the coffee girl, but then again she wanted to cripple him. I totally imagine that the top producer of big brother is exactly like him.

He was the best character on the show. All the others were pretty bland.

Well, I did have to say he was quite a evil character in terms of personality and morality but his lines compensated for that and made me laugh. Of course, it's all entertainment after all. There could be characters in other zombie movies that are worse than what he does. In reality, someone like him would be just as dangerous and mindless as the zombies.

But his comments on Pippa actually are indeed, quite true; Pippa's brain is not the kind of brain you'd expect from a person you meet everyday. I mean, she calls a lamp a 'light machine' and wonders if toes have bones in them.

But as Kelly the coffee girl said...Patrick can be evil when he gets stressed out but when he's calm, he's almost human.

Heck, he was stressed since the beginning: being the producer of a popular show, making sure everything is perfect for being on live, running from zombies, living with dumb birdbrains like Pippa and then seeing the zombies surrounding the whole studio.

All that, adding with his previous stress from producing a show would be sure to drive him evil and possibly insane. Like coffee girl said after rescuing him: "Poor bastard has got a lot to come to terms with"

Anyone think the Patrick was similar to David Brent? No?

bcampfield you are right i thought the whole time that he was like Ricky Gervais's David Brent.

He was the the guy that you love hate in this show. But thats how someone would acted in real life like a git just to save themself.

I can remember Cooper from remake of night of the living dead to be pretty much worse, at least this was entertaining in a psychotic kind of way, cooper was just coward and evil... must see.

reply

I thought so too. In fact, he seems like an evil version of David Brent.

I thought he was hilarious AND scary. The scene where he talks Joplin into supporting his idea is borderline evil in its selfish and destructive intent. He was certainly the most entertaining character of the bunch, despite his malicious/selfish nature.

I am amazed at Andy Nyman's ability to make it work. At no point does Patrick become a cartoon, at least in my view. He remains real despite being incredibly, breathtakingly prickish.

How can that be?

Oh, how I wish I could believe or understand that.

Patrick was an arrogant, self centred pr*ck...but that said he was the one and only member of the remaining survivors that we saw in the house that actually had the nerve or initiative to actually be proactive and try and come up of a plan to get out of the house. I mean really, what else were they supposed to do?! Wait for a rescue team to come that may never arrive. They would have only had a limited amount of resources.

What were they going to do if and when they ran out of water? Drink each others p*ss! And what about when they ran out of food? I suppose they could have done the unfortunate yet necesaary recourse of resorting to cannibalism and feeding off the corpses of their deceased fellow housemates. But the meat off of them would only last so long, particularly when you consider there were so many mouths to feed and what then? Would they be forced to turn on one another and do something even more unthinkable!

You can't be too hard on them I suppose as they were ofcourse scared, and no doubt I would be in that situation. But weighing up the pros and cons what other alternative was there but to at least try and escape the confines of the house. And in that relatively small enviroment how long would it take before there was the potential for cabin fever to begin to set in?

Patrick may have been a five star ar*sehole but he was one with some degree of balls. Ok, he did bring about everyone's death in the end. But seriously. Had they listened to him and actually been more proactive and showed some backbone they might have escaped. All they needed to do was discuss the whole thing rationly and come uo with a well formed strategem that they could all agree upon!

If Patrick had been slightly friendlier and not bounded into the house automatically assuming he was God of everything, maybe the others would've been more open to the plan.

If you want the best seat in the house, move the cat.

Except he didn't really have a plan. He had no idea where he was going to go, he just wanted to force them all to do what he wanted. He was a complete moron and the kind of dangerous liability you'd be better off killing, because you know his stubborness and selfishness will wind up getting you ALL killed.

It's called rain. You place buckets and bowls outdoors, like on the roof for example. It rains. You collect the buckets and store the water. Voila!

And what about when they ran out of food?

If you had paid closer attention to the film, you'd know they had the means to grow their own food there.
They could have stayed there comfortably for months. They could have also tried to put some kind of message up on the roof, saying 'Survivors here, HELP', or something, in case a rescue team would fly by sometime.

I'm not saying they should have stayed forever and just waited for help, but considering the pandemic was running rampant and the world was filled with aggressive cannibals, they might have wanted to stay a little longer, and really prepare themselves and think through their options carefully before making any rash decisions to leave. Unfortunately, with a dangerous and manipulative hothead like Patrick around, that was impossible.
