I didn't expect to like this film so much...

When this movie first came out, I was really skeptical on how good it would be. For starters, I didn't even have a Facebook account back in 2010. So at the time, I didn't really know what all the hype was about. But after being on Facebook for many years now...I can finally appreciate this film and see what a masterpiece is. I think David Fincher is probably the only director who could make a film about programmers and social networking to be entertaining and interesting. Overall, great movie.

Yeah, it was a very compelling film.
Initially, I only watched it because I'm a fan of Fincher's other films. I was also curious about how the score would turn out, since I was, and am, really into Trent Reznor's other music.

reply

Me too. Reznor makes fantastic scores.

I get what you say, but personally I did not think it was a great film. Maybe because Facebook was at that time and even now not understood as to what it was, what it is doing, and who is driving it.

Thank God for Europe and what they are doing as regards citizen privacy rights ... I just hope it catches on in the US.

Zuckerberg really doesn't seem to understand what his invention is doing and time after time they are caught with their pants down being exploited in order to manipulate the public.

Hell, if I was him and my baby was turned into something monstrous, I'd take my money and get out. Facebook and most tech companies are really screwing us.

The opening scene is a brilliant. It starts with the date gone bad where Mark’s odd character is introduced, then the theme music as he walks back to his dorm really sets the drama in motion. Next comes the sequence of scenes where Mark creates the facemash program, intertwined with scenes of other students around campus - the privileged partying, students in dorms reacting to facemash. Great set up and I was hooked after that.

I know exactly what you mean. The director, David Fincher, turned what could've been a bland and dull story, into quite the movie watching experience. What I enjoyed about the film was, even when I didn't know anything about Facebook and before I even had an account, the story still managed to intrigue me. Everything about the film just worked; ranging from the cast, the editing, the music, the story / character development, etc.

This video really dives into that opening scene. it also highlights how well Fincher and Sorkin counter balanced each other to make a great film: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IAGH6k17nw

This was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Some geek who starts Facebook. BFD, who gives a rat's ass. In addition to the uninteresting subject and jerkoff characters, the music and background noise made most of the dialogue nearly impossible to understand. Truly inept film making.

As I usually respond to comments like this:

Well, that's just like...your opinion man.

Hard to disagree with this accurate assessment, terribly overrated movie.

I guess I'll have to agree here. Honestly the movie was mostly people being in different rooms talking or arguing with each others. There technically was so much going on. And still, it felt like there was a lot happening and there was such an energy. Only an excellent filmmaker like Fincher can pull this off so effectively.

This is definitely among my Fincher's favorite. Such a dynamic film. I didn't have any issues with the editing. The fast passing fit with the energetic and fast editing. I absolutely loved the dialogues (I mean, they were the main vehicle of the movie)!
