So freaking bad... Felt like a parody of the original

Disagree.

It's different from it's predecessor sure but a decent film.

The cinematography was good, it had several brutal and nihilistic scenes, it was chock full of homages and was ultimately an entertaining film.

This is no lesser than most slasher franchise entries from the 80s and 90s.
