How are you not outraged?

So, I don't know what was worse about this movie - the fact that the "teacher" got away with treating everyone like garbage, the terrible things these children were exposed to, the corrupt teachers (all of them), or the fact that the drug abusing teacher gets away with everything in the end.

1. How was she not reported? She was a foul ***** to everyone - funny for the first 2 seconds, but got real old real fast.

2. The stuff this woman exposed those children to - her drug abuse, the movie watching instead of doing actually homework, and finally cheating in the end - she ruined everyone of those children.

3. Teachers smoking pot in the gym. Everyone of those people were trash. The only decent teacher is rewarded with - what's this? - she's framed for being a drug user! How funny! So funny I forgot to laugh.

4. So, in the end, she gets away with everything. The decent teacher is sent to a terrible school. And everyone lives happily ever after. She continues to be a snob. Without the proper rehab she will continue to be a drug user. And those children will suffer.

Um... is this supposed to be a comedy? Because it isn't funny at all. How can any parent of any public school attending children be amused by this? This is a shame. It should have never been made into a movie.

It is a sad portrayal of the public school system. I hope this isn't how public schools really are nowadays...? If this was a male teacher abusing little girls, would it still be funny?

I think the people who made this film should be ashamed of themselves. I think the public education system should pull out a lawsuit for this. Is this really what America is all about now? If the teachers are corrupt, what chance do your children have?

reply

it's just a terrible terrible movie
Very nice, how much?

reply

How am I not outraged? Because it's NOT REAL LIFE.
Because IT'S JUST A FREAKING MOVIE!

Because I love seeing offensive, foundation-shaking movies... and I don't have a Puritanical, religious and/or anal retentive pair of blockers over my eyes that prevent me from enjoying these movies.

Because instead of coming to IMDB and raving about a fictional movie, I'm outraged at our ACTUAL educational system, and things like Creationism being taught and evolution being considered as "just one of many theories". I'm outraged that over 16,000 children die of hunger every day... that's one every five seconds... that's like 6 or seven during the time it took me to write this response. I'm outraged by the number of unwanted animals in shelters.

So why am I not outraged by a fictional comedy that some people may not like? The question is... why are you?

Well the only way I could agree with you would be to say that evolution is part of this reality. And as I believe that this reality is an illusion I would therfore have to say evolution is part of that illusion. However, when speaking about this reality and speaking from within it, then evolution is most definately a fact of this reality.

In all of the years since the theory of Evolution was hypothesized, have scientists anywhere been able to evolve one species into another ?
Back on topic- the whole point of this movie is being able to look at one of the most beautiful women ever- too bad we don't get to see her titties, since they are the focal points of this weak and stupid plot.

You're joking I assume, if so props on catching my attention.

...then whoa, differences...

reply

Scientists have proven examples of evolution--like birds evolving from white coloration to dark when the air quality was so bad after the industrial revolution in England. They evolved to be more camouflaged.

NO macro evolution has ever been proven and if if it was........ *gasp* God could have done it.

Plus the OP is saying someone who smokes marijuana should be in rehab... seriously? People who actually need help with their addictive substances laugh at such an idea. Marijuana is legal in 2 US states and that number will grow, because it's not even close to as dangerous as Caffeine is.

Plus I have had a teacher that showed us maybe 10 films over the school year that were not at all connected to the class. It stinks that American teachers can do this and get away with it, but it happens. People in school smoked pot, and people knew about it, even those Ivy league schools' students have likely at least witnessed someone smoke pot, if not done so themselves. And even if a teacher did fake test scores, which does happen in many American schools, it wouldn't destroy anybodies lives. They are just 7th grader test scores, it's not like the SATs. Those tests are just there to ensure that students that are already learning, get more chances at a better education, and those that aren't learning get less chances at one. It's failed system. And good teachers should work at underprivileged schools, because a good education isn't just for rich districts.

This film mocks a serious problem with education in America. People need to really think about whether they'd condone a system that could possibly let any of this happen. And I have to say, this isn't that far from real life. I had a male teacher that sexually harassed me and other students, and when I reported him, I was told to "suck it up". I wasn't even allowed to switch out of his class. There was a faculty member at my school that took girls out of class to offer them modeling contracts. And they were modeling underwear... this guy wasn't fired. This is the type of public education you can expect. Things need to be changed, and a shocking fictional film can get discussion rolling.

America is failing our kids. We need to support real changes.

reply

After recently seeing the documentary "Bully", I can see what you mean. Again with my rant regarding puritanical, so-called "Christian" (or whatever myth), it seems that the small-town American schools are horribly corrupt and blind to a bevy of issues. I was lucky enough to not experience any of that, but I know it exists. The system is broken.

http://us.imdb.com/name/nm2339870/

reply

It was a funny movie. I got many laughs. But I do agree with a few of OP's points. The good teachers got shafted or at the very least portrayed as lame. Diaz never gave the money back. There were no consequences for the bad character in the show; only for the good people.

Who cares about the pot? Pot is nothing. Way more "respectable" people smoke it than you think.

Diaz has great comedic sense and I always enjoy her in comedies.

Very well said.

reply

Um... is this supposed to be a comedy?

Technically, yes, it is a comedy and it's no different than other comedies like, The Pink Panther that's about a goofy detective, Get Smart thats about a goofy secret agent, Stripes thats about goofy soldiers, Police Academy features goofy cops etc...etc...

Was the movie good??? Probably not but it had a few funny parts in it. You didn't like the movie and that's okay but I still don't see any difference between this and the dozens of other comedies out there. Besides, it's called "Bad Teacher" what were you expecting?

reply

The Republican Party is looking for you. You can help them make fun illegal.

reply

Bringing politics into a thread about bad teacher. How is any pary fun or not ?? I mean cause we want babies to live.Oh i know what a buzzkill when a baby miraculously survives and abortion and the nurse has to go smoother it.Now thats really fun man.WISE UP SIR.

reply

No, it's spot on. Political "parys" deserve to be brought up in this thread, as many Republicans are also religious nuts, which I have to imagine the OP is as well. I assume you're confused as to who has more "fun", but your post is for the most part illegible.

I would also like to point out your absolute ignorance regarding abortion. Really? DO tell how a baby survives an abortion. When the baby survives it and it has to be "smoothered"? You mean they smooth it back out? Oh, since you're versed in these procedures, what type of abortion are these miracle babies surviving before they are "smoothed"? MTX? MVA? Aspiration? D&C, D&A? D&X? Do tell!

Does anyone else here see the hilarious irony in the gross illiteracy demonstrated in a post slamming a movie about a Bad Teacher?

LOL!!!!!!!!!!

reply

Wasn't the school shooting enough to convince you that movies promoting bad behavior has a real life cost? Laugh away.

reply

Are you serious?! This movie does not promote bad behavior. I don't think anyone agrees that what Cameron Diaz's character does in the movie is acceptable in anyway, but that doesn't make it any less hilarious, especially if, like me, you are a teacher who understands that the current "test the kids to death" state of education is ruining it. And what does the tragedy in Connecticut have to do with anything in this movie? Talk about grasping at straws. This movie is a satire on the educational system and nothing more.

reply

This movie does not promote bad behavior.

Ever hear of the expression Life imitates art? Bad behavior begets bad behavior. Now I am sure you and most people are grounded enough not to act this way, some are more influenced, but at the very least it does desensitize people to it.

Actually, correlation does not imply causation. This is why I gave you an article that references studies conducted at universities by PhDs doing peer-reviewed scientific research.

Let me clear it up for you: Studies that show correlations are not studies that show causation.

By all means, eat all the fried chicken, greasy hamburgers and french fries and super-size soft drinks you want. Don't bother exercising, just sit around watching TV and chain smoke away. Because all those studies that say high intakes of saturated fat, high fructose corn syrup, tobacco correlate to negative health impacts do not show causation.

You are being silly now.

reply

Uh, yes. The causal pathway for fatty foods and softdrinks making you fat is quite known, and is not a mere correlation. We know the processes by which it happens. You are just revealing your inability to interpret studies. I'm amused.

And you are just revealing your inability to accept losing an argument. Most scientists would be amused by your fallacious argument.

But if you want something more objective...

Granger causality mapping analyses revealed attenuation in the left lOFC, indicating that activation during viewing aggressive media is driven by input from parietal regions that decreased over time, for more aggressive videos. We conclude that aggressive media activates an emotion-attention network that has the capability to blunt emotional responses through reduced attention with repeated viewing of aggressive media contents, which may restrict the linking of the consequences of aggression with an emotional response, and therefore potentially promotes aggressive attitudes and behavior.

That conclusion is a serious leap. Because a part of the brain has a response to an activity -> (big leap) -> permanent effects with no explanation of the mechanism of how they become permanent.

Hell, the fact that they said "having the capability to blunt" as opposed to "blunts" shows that even they don't believe in the conclusion you're trying to submit.

I will say while watching the first half hour I was distracted because you couldnt believe that she would get away with just showing them movies, being hungover, and being a total b*tch to the other faculty, it made no sense even for a movie, but once she started to teach them (with her unorthodox ways) it was believable and better

you should try watching some documentaries about public education in America.

It's not that far off from the truth. of course it is a Comedy, so they have to play up the not so bad things bad teachers do. It could be worse. Actual teachers rape their students. Actual teachers do hardcore drugs. Actual teachers try to ruin lives of their students. It has happened, and it's not even close to smoking pot, giving a sad kid your bra, or playing dodge ball. Of course, I don't condone the actions of the lead character in a movie called Bad teacher. Just saying, worse has happened.

reply

The "good" teacher that got shafted at the end - Ms. Squirrel, was a shady character herself

reply

Hahaha, touche :) Of course it wasn't. God, lighten up to the people complaining about it. It's JUST a movie, it didn't actually happen....

well that sucks. I was taking notes from her

reply

I watched this film on an international trip so luckily it was free but I thought the exact same thing.

Somehow I just don't find movies where the bad person actually gets rewarded for always being a b*tch and not doing anything funny or entertaining. The other teacher actually cared for her kids and wanted them to succeed and wasn't just in it for boob job money. Why is she ridiculed throughout the film?! I don't know how people could not be disgusted by Cameron's behavior in the film.

She should have been fired at the end of the film but realized teaching wasn't her passion and became an advice columnist or something and stayed far far far away from children and schools.

Also, no school would allow a teacher to wear outfits like the ones Diaz wore in the films. Did the writers not understand what a dress code is?

reply

Watched it on an international flight?

Ha! Don't know which airline you flew with but airlines have a policy against showing R rated movies. So in other words you either paid to watch it and are too ashamed to admit, or you downloaded it illegally...

reply

Meh, believe me or not but it's true. It was Air Canada out of Toronto so maybe the same rules don't apply. I also rewatched Horrible Bosses on the same trip.

reply

I watched Boys Don't Cry on a Virgin transatlantic flight in 1999 (or 2000, can't recall for sure; I did the flight both years) so yeah, just backing you up. You can definitely see R movies on some flights.

isubmitnoexcuse, I thought I was the only one that thought her outfits were totally inappropriate for a school teacher. I'm glad you mentioned it. My brother and I were discussing that after we watched the movie. And my brother also mentioned that it was not believable that none of the male students were drooling over her or anything. She did look quite pretty in this film, and I think it's BS that none of the kids were gaga over her. Well, except for the car wash scene.

reply

I think that the film wouldn't be doing it's job if it didn't provoke a few responses like this one.

The film does feature an amoral protagonist but that's what made it a challenge and I think the script writer and Cameron Diaz pulled it off narrowly. She's not that unsympathetic, she does change for the batter, and I agree that Lucy Punch got the short end of the stick and didn't really deserve it, but that happens in films all the time.

I was disturbed in the Dark Knight because the Joker got away with so much, but then you have to think, why are you disturbed? Was it because the characters were written effectively?

reply

troopera, I'm not sure bats is a troll. Trolls don't usually put too much thought into their posts. Sounds more like the kinda guy (or girl) who's just jealous of casual things that look like some fun, like in the movie. All conservative. So she did a little weed, so what? Went to bars, smoked, had fun, not even a freakin' blast. I think we all do that, some more than others, and being a teacher doesn't put anybody on a high horse. It's not like she was having the kids do her heroin shots. When I'll have kids, I'd be delighted if they went to a school where there were some lively teachers, not just robots with books, and cardigans, and glasses. The last thing kids need these days is to be wussed down by their educators (including their parents). I had a teacher like her in middle school, and I didn't end up bad, by most standards. In fact, they're the kinda people you can learn a trick or two from, nothing serious.

Most important, though: everybody needs to relax, this is just a movie, chill, and enjoy whatever you want.
