2009 Ford Falcon looks like Kia Koup

I just love the old Muscle car styling of Eric's XB.

If I owned one of these in the 70's and then lost it by trading it in half a dozen years later I'd be kicking myself to this very day.

Too many cars built since the early 80's have more so-called 'cheeky' styling rather than the good old 'can-do' look (and sound) of the Muscle era classics.

And just last week I saw a photo in the newspaper of the new Korean manufactured Kia Koup, it bares too much of a striking similarity to the new Aussie Fords - you'd have to just about squint to see a difference! Ah - but what can we do about it ?

Wow.. I'm actually replying to a 3 year old post, but here goes:

Couldn't agree with you more on car-styling these days. Where are the Falcons, the Chargers, the GTOs? And I'm disregarding cars like the current Mustang or Camaro here, because they're more or less just carbon copies of classic designs.

Especially Ford (Europe) should get back to their roots and offer a sporty, sexy and affordable coupé.. they always had those back in the old days (Mustang in the US, Falcon XB in Australia, Capri in Europe). The absolute low point for me was their attempt to sex up that boring little shopping trolley (Puma) by inserting Steve McQueen into it via CGI. Steve must've been spinning in his grave.

These days (in Europe), they don't offer anthything like a Capri. And they won't import the Mustang to Europe. That car is only available from small, specialized importers and thus is pretty expensive over here - especially considering its rather agricultural underpinnings.

On a side note: Even though I've never seen a Falcon XB Coupe in the flesh (never been to Australia), I've always loved that car ever since I first saw it in "Mad Max". I'd go as far as saying that the XB Coupe and the Holden Monaro from that period looked cooler than most of their US-counterparts.
