Two Excellent Performances

Props to director Christopher Landon for getting the best possible performances out of Jamie Chung and Zoe Saldana.

High praise to Chung for the sincerity of her performance. The subject of her vignette borders on disturbing, obscene humor, and she is utterly convincing in every frame. When she stares into the camera, closes her eyes, and tears leak out, you know right there she invested everything into this character.

Ditto Saldana's performance. Her insanity is palpable, and the reason for it is unbelievably sad and tragic. By the time her plan abruptly climaxes, she has drawn us into a believable, plausible situation rooted in someone's truth. Her performance was emotionally taxing, which served as its own reward.

Anyway, the entirety of the film was entertaining and thoughtful, the direction was terrific, and the stories were honestly written and performed. Highly recommend.
