Well .. here's the thing.
Someone said it before, Kane put A LOT of himself into the character, and felt a sort of ownership over Jason. He's been quoted as being the kind of guy who would refuse to do something in a script on account of "Jason wouldn't do that."
Towards the end, the movies became more focused on Jason, and how good of a character Kane found in him. I think he did a great job! He's my favorite actor as Jason.
But ... Freddy vs Jason should have been called "The kids of Freddy vs Jason" because, they barely had any screen time. Freddy and Jason were just the monsters of the movie, and thats how the studio, and Ronny wanted it to be.
Kane would have come in and been like "Nah, *beep* the kids. It's called FREDDY VS JASON, lets let them just GO AT IT for an hour." and, that would have been awesome for my money Lol. But thats not the movie the studio wanted.
So they recast. They wanted a guy who they could portray Jason, but would just play him as the monster they wanted. They wanted to limit his characteristics. There's nothing of Kane's Jason seen in the FVSJ Jason. His character is pretty dull, to be honest.
But I don't blame the actor. He was doing his job, they wanted Jason to be this big killing machine, who also would show his sympathetic side, to make the characters and audience root for him. To make him the *good* bad guy....
Meh, to be honest, i think they put WAY too much plot into the film. The result was a bunch of thick storylines that got shortened down and were overall meaningless in one giant film. I went to see freddy fight jason and, i got about five minutes of that, MAYBE...
Hell I'd love a redo of this film. Let's simplify it. Kids who are stalked by Freddy in their dreams end up going to summer camp at the newly reopened Camp Crystal lake (cause, NOOOOTHING could go wrong, THIS time ...) but kids soon begin dying in their sleep, and the legend of Jason returns. Jason himself senses Freddy's awareness and actually DOES come back to stalk the camp, when, Freddy is brought out of one of the kids dreams, and then they just have at it for the next hour.
Starring ROBERT ENGLUND as Freddy and KANE HODDER as Jason.
Now, THAT'S a film that could rightfully be called Freddy vs *beep* Jason.
BOUNCE!
