Kane Hodder needs to stop B!tching!

While I believe Kane has brought a tremendous amount of uniqueness to the Jason character, it's time for Kane to stop bitching about the fact that he got passed over for Jason In Freddy vs Jason. Tough luck, but the studio went with someone else. I just hate the fact that he had to bring it up during this documentary too. Just let it go. And what's with John Carl Buechler doing a PR job for him? like come on, " I believe we never got the ultimate freddy vs jason"?

reply

Kane probably doesn't think Jason let Freddy have his all in the movie. The director whatever wanted Jason more sympathetic or whatever, not as evil as Freddy or something.

The thing is, Kane was becoming a part of the character. A lot of people felt that not having him in the film, was like re-casting Freddy.

In my personal opinion, Kirzinger did a good job. But why wouldn't someone mention it when it's being brought up?

And Buechler really thinks that Kane is all that, I think. I don't think he's supporting him just to support him.

I'm fairly certain KH is over the whole thing. People ask him questions about it, and he answers. It didn't seem to me that he dwelling on it all that much in the doc. He was just stating the fact that he felt he got a raw deal.

FvsJ and the remake may have made a gagillion dollars but that does not a good movie make.

I'm honestly surprised anyone felt that "Jason isn't Jason unless he's played by Kane," considering the character of Jason looks completely different in all of Hodder's films! Other than the heavy breathing, it might as well be a different guy anyway...!

Yeah I really get tired of listening to Kane Hodder bitch, especially since I always thought he was an overrated Jason and didn't get where this gushing worship of the fans came from. Frankly, I like EVERY other Jason better (but I never saw FVJ and never will). My favorite Jason is probably Richard Brooker in III, I thought he was really scary, and then I thought CJ Graham was the most badass Jason in "Jason Lives."

Kane Hodder needs to get over it and move on.

For me, it's all about Potato Sack Jason anyway. I liked him as a retarded hillbilly rather than The Terminator. Hodder was great and all, but certainly not iconic. It's hard to be the "definitive Jason" when he's essentially different in every damn film anyway...

"The director whatever wanted Jason more sympathetic or whatever, not as evil as Freddy or something. "

That's funny that this is what people think. Sean Cunningham even says that in this doc, but on the commentary Ronny Yu says that one of the first notes he ever got from the studio was that the studio wanted a new Jason. Probably because it was the first one that New Line Studios produced and they wanted to do their own thing with it. Either that or Ronny Yu is full of shi t...but more likely everybody who is trying to off load the blame is partially to blame, even though I always thought Kerzinger does a good job.

I don't get the whole Kane Hodder thing anyway. So what? He played Jason in all the Fridays that sucked! F13 1 through 4, maybe 6 are the best ones, and that's it. Although F13 part V had some good kills and nice nudity. Other than that Part 7, 8, 9, and 10 all sucked.

Hey! I have a soft spot for Jason X. ;)

I didn't think he was bitching all that much in the doc, but he's my least favorite Jason out of all of them. 2 and 6 were my favorite. My friend told me that Kane was his favorite Jason, so when I watched the doc I was suprised that he was in all of the worst Jason movies.

I have the exact same preferences as you do. Jason was menacing enough in Part II, but in Part VI, he never looked better, and he was at his badass peak.

It's really a bummer that Kane only got cast for bad movies. It's true that parts 7-10 were the weakest films.

For me, what makes Kane awesome as Jason is his split-second changes from being menacing to sympathetic. The only other Jason to do this was potato-sack head from Part 2, and he can't really be credited with it, because it was part of the script. With Hodder, the sympathetic moments are entirely to his credit.

Freddy vs. Jason was actually the THIRD Jason movie from New Line, just to clarify that point. They also made JGTH and Jason X, both with Hodder.

And the most believable explanation I heard for why they wanted a different Jason for the "versus" movie was that they really wanted Jason to dwarf Freddy in term of physical stature. Ken's definitely got a few inches on Kane.

reply

Probably because it was the first one that New Line Studios produced and they wanted to do their own thing with it

New Line had previously done two Jason movies.

The recasting was because the studios wanted Jason to be much taller than Freddy.

As a Canadian, I was proud that Kirzinger did Jason. And even he has respect for Kane. Why didnt Kane talk about Kirzinger's performance? it would have been interesting to hear his veiws.

reply

I've often wondered why Kane Hodder thinks he is the #1 Jason?

Parts 7 to 10, he may have looked cool as Jason, but the majority show that they are not the fans most favorite sequels, and 8, 9 and Jason X usually get voted in as the least favorites.

Just cause he did 4 movies, doesn't mean he is the ideal Jason.

reply

In Kane's world it's probably all about how many times you've played Jason which makes you the best one. But there are many better Jasons out there. Ted White and Richard Brooker were way better and even Kirzinger and Mears did a better job. Kane did an ok job, but he's not the legend he thinks he is.

CJ was an amazing Jason I think he stepped in and did well and is very underrated. When they cast Kane in the next it was just as good I see it as Kane can play the zombie menacing killer better than the previous because before Jason was almost human not to mention he is a horror icon and a hell of stunt man! Horror movies are better because of Kane in the scene or behind it he may be a *beep* actor without a mask "coughs Ed Gein" but he gets by on that scowl and isn't awful!

reply

I must say Kane does my two favourite Jason scenes. First being when he kicks the stereo in Times Square, and in part X when he freezes the girl's head, when smashes it onto the counter. Wonderful.

...But For the record, I'm a Freddy fan ; )

reply

One of my fav scenes is when Hodder's Jason eyes up the young guard at the beginning of X - just the most soulless, black, menacing one-eyed stare I've ever seen lol.

'Then' and 'than' are different words - stop confusing them.

no way!!! Kane Hodder was/is the best Jason!!! all the other guys to play Jason more or less have said that the Friday the 13th movies were *beep* Kane deserved to play Jason in FVJ but got shafted big time! Kirzinger still done a great job though.

we all go a little mad sometimes....

reply

Kirzinger was the worst Jason.Jason is not slow and dumb he's a brute,he comes after you full force.don't get me wrong i loved Freddy vs. Jason, but we should have gotten the REAL Jason Voorhees. The real Jason wouldn't have given Freddy the chance to even touch him in the real world,Freddy would've been his Bit*h.

I was kinda thinking the same thing. Kirzinger's actually my favorite Jason, but when Freddy was near him in the real world, it seems like he was wasting time fighting and grappling with him instead of caving his head in with one punch like he could've. Was Freddy to agile or something like that?

reply

Kane can't be blamed for the films being bad. He protested about the ending of the 8th one which i agree with. But i don't understand why he chose or anyone chose to be apart of the 9th one. Easily one of my most hated movies of all time.

reply

he's a nice guy...but ANYONE could play that role.

reply

Android: Exactly. All you do is walk around with a mask on. I don't see all of this subtlety people are speaking of, but, to be fair, I'm not a FF13th superfan so perhaps I am missing something. However, maybe the fans are readin a bit too much into things/overstating them somewhat. I mean, really, a big guy walks around menacingly, makes a few head gestures, breathes heavily, and people somehow think it's distinctive?

I dunno.

At least with the Freddy recast, it makes sense for people to be upset, due to Freddy having a voice and a personality.

Well .. here's the thing.

Someone said it before, Kane put A LOT of himself into the character, and felt a sort of ownership over Jason. He's been quoted as being the kind of guy who would refuse to do something in a script on account of "Jason wouldn't do that."

Towards the end, the movies became more focused on Jason, and how good of a character Kane found in him. I think he did a great job! He's my favorite actor as Jason.

But ... Freddy vs Jason should have been called "The kids of Freddy vs Jason" because, they barely had any screen time. Freddy and Jason were just the monsters of the movie, and thats how the studio, and Ronny wanted it to be.

Kane would have come in and been like "Nah, *beep* the kids. It's called FREDDY VS JASON, lets let them just GO AT IT for an hour." and, that would have been awesome for my money Lol. But thats not the movie the studio wanted.

So they recast. They wanted a guy who they could portray Jason, but would just play him as the monster they wanted. They wanted to limit his characteristics. There's nothing of Kane's Jason seen in the FVSJ Jason. His character is pretty dull, to be honest.

But I don't blame the actor. He was doing his job, they wanted Jason to be this big killing machine, who also would show his sympathetic side, to make the characters and audience root for him. To make him the *good* bad guy....

Meh, to be honest, i think they put WAY too much plot into the film. The result was a bunch of thick storylines that got shortened down and were overall meaningless in one giant film. I went to see freddy fight jason and, i got about five minutes of that, MAYBE...

Hell I'd love a redo of this film. Let's simplify it. Kids who are stalked by Freddy in their dreams end up going to summer camp at the newly reopened Camp Crystal lake (cause, NOOOOTHING could go wrong, THIS time ...) but kids soon begin dying in their sleep, and the legend of Jason returns. Jason himself senses Freddy's awareness and actually DOES come back to stalk the camp, when, Freddy is brought out of one of the kids dreams, and then they just have at it for the next hour.

Starring ROBERT ENGLUND as Freddy and KANE HODDER as Jason.

Now, THAT'S a film that could rightfully be called Freddy vs *beep* Jason.

BOUNCE!

To all those bitching about Kane.. you are CLEARLY not old school Friday/horror fans. If anyone has to take a single breath to explain why Kane was the definitive jason, they are wasting their time. he will always be JASON and I complain about them skipping him today just like he does because he EARNED it more than anyone on the planet. We as fans earned it. Kane = Jason
