Way creepier than Arkham City

Arkham City, whilst dark, is not as creepy as this game. Here's a list of what I found creepy:

1. The morgues - there's two in particular. There's one where you do the first Scarecrow mission and then another one near Dr. Young's office and if you zoom in you can see Ra's Al Ghuls skeletal foot in a body bag - and when you come back at the end of the story it's not there anymore.

2. The rabid inmates - creepy as hell

3. The graveyard - don't like the look of it

4. Batman's vision of himself going insane in the last scarecrow mission - chilling

5. The whole system surrounding Croc's lair/the secret Batcave looks depressing and creepy. It's kinda like - 'who built this thing?'

6. The 'Amadaeus Arkham' recordings are chilling and the person responsible for putting them there is just plain creepy

7. Rattling in certain areas - ghosts?

8. Some of the audio recordings are plain creepy - like the Riddler's and Zsaz's. Joker's actually seems tame by comparison

9. The air vents are more filthy when compared with those in 'City' - there are skulls in some of them. I mean wtf?

10. Erm....well the soundtrack sounds like a horror one. Very effective and creepy

Anyone else think that this game is creepier than Arkham City?

Agreed. The claustrophobic feel of Arkham Asylum added to the atmosphere of creepiness. Those dirty dark halls, the underground caves, the screaming inmates. The way Scarecrow could pop up in the middle of a level and attack when you're just going about your routine. You felt like anything could be waiting for you behind a corner or door.

Honestly I don't think Arkham City had many creepy moments at all, if any.

reply

Yeah definitely.

Oh and Arkham City had the Identity Thief side-mission which was creepy. The Zsasz side-mission was creepy too. Then there was R'as Al Ghul's lair - other than that I can't think of any creepy things/moments in Arkham City.

See I didn't think the identity thief side mission was creepy. It was just bodies with bandaged heads. Or Zsasz and his ringing phones. Ra's Al Ghul's lair was more surreal than creepy. It had a wow factor to it. It felt like a virtual reality training session.

I'll agree with this assessment, but, in my opinion, the creepiness (or lack thereof) does not take away from the quality of the game. Most of what made Asylum so great was, infact, implemented in Arkham City (gameplay, gadgets, combat, predator). City didn't take a dump on Asylum like Origins did on City. It took the important aspects and expanded on everything. You not only have a batclaw and batarangs...you have a freeze grenade and a smoke pellet (very helpful in predator mode). You have respawning enemies (replay value). You have the most important upgrade of them all...the ability to fly.

How the heck did Origins 'take a dump' on City?

The gameplay tries to be like City but all the nasty glitches are testament that this was too difficult and was a failed task. I've been punched out of Bane's Hotel room. I've had invisible riddler data handlers and data packs. I was glitched to not complete the deadshot mission. I've seen people slam deathstroke through the floor and not being able to continue. Game stopping glitches on I am the Night could be a NIGHTMARE.

They also crapped on the in-game challenges (introduced first in Arkham City as physical challenges). Inexplicably, Worst Nightmare cannot be completed unless it is done before you beat the story portion. They don't even tell you this, as you have to find out for yourself the hard way.

I've also seen people complain about the lack of detail (relative to City). I mean...if you can't make the game, don't make it.

I guess Warner Bros. was getting impatient over Rocksteady taking so much longer on making the next game that they decided to turn to another developer to make one for inbetween. It was obvious Warner Montreal was under strict time constraints. "Don't bother smoothing out EVERY glitch. Time is money. So long as the game can be BEAT, it's good enough." Greedy A-holes.

Exactly, besides what's the new studio to do? Tell WB "We're not confident in ourselves to make this game"? It was a new studio that made a game with a great story and bugs that got mostly ironed out with subsequent updates, the whole 'We're going to focus on the story DLC instead of the remaining minor bugs for the time being' was a good indicator that they were being told to focus on the money-making parts first and foremost. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if they start working on the remaining bugs now that the DLC's all released. And I'm frankly excited to see what they can do now that they've got real game-making experience.

Definitely creepier. It's a very different sort of game to Arkham City in a way because City doesn't really try to replicate the mood of Asylum. Not that that's a bad thing at all, but City goes for more of a big fun feel whereas Asylum definitely has a scary vibe to the whole thing.

To be fair, navigating your way around a near-empty penitentiary, medical facility and mansion is always going to be a lot more creepy than the more-populated map of Arkham City. I like that the games have such different feels to them. It means that every time I finish Asylum and move on to City, I'm not just playing more of the same thing. It also keeps Asylum relevant even in spite of its bigger sequel. You know that even if you own City, Asylum still offers you things that City doesn't.

The ONE thing I don't like about this game is that you don't get ALL the gadgets when you start playing.I mean, that's just STUPID!!!At least in Arkham City I have more stuff when I start the game!!!

But I do agree with the whole creepy aspect.I'm playing a new game now(Already finished it once.),and I seem to be doing a lot better than when I first started playing. For one thing,I find it easier to take out all the armed thugs.

I hate the Scarecrow missions, the one where there's a crazy version of Batman is just freaky. It's all a hallucination I know, but I don't get how Scarecrow gets Batman to think he's is some other world when he's really still in the Asylum!!!

Yeah... only Batman would use a multi-million dollar air drop to acquire a line launcher, because he couldn't use the Batwing to begin with.

It is odd that Batman wouldn't have all of his gear, but they needed to do this to keep you from wandering around to forbidden areas of the game. The same thing happens in Arkham City and Arkham Origins. Batman really needs to fly back to pick up a concussion detonator when the one place he'd actually use it, he tightropes over anyway?

Most folks I know loved the Scarecrow missions, at least the first time they played them.

I actually deleted my other game.I now only have the new game I started recently.Thing is,the game I deleted was the one that I finished to story with. Was that stupid?

So now the only slot that has a game is the second one.

The one thing I love doing is solving riddles. So far I've solved the portrait one,the Firefly one,and the deep sea killer one.I can't remember where I'm supposed to go to solve the Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee riddle.I know there's a seesaw or something somewhere but I can't think of where.

If I remember correctly, the See-Saw is outside in the yard somewhere. (Yeah, not super helpful). So check the grounds.

And yes, if you completed the game it was dumb to delete it! Although not really becuase you can always replay it. However the old one probably had all of your Fight stats and saves in it.

reply

Well,APPARENTLY I have solved like 24 or 30 riddles since I started the new game. And last night I found 5 Riddler trophies!!!

When I first started playing this game I had such a hard time taking out the armed thugs but now I'm finding it much easier.I'm SO glad I finally got the Batclaw!!!

And how does the Riddler MAKE these trophies?Wouldn't he need a mold and to melt down some metal?

It's hard to imagine that such things are available in an ASYLUM!!!

I've been scanning the buildings in the distance trying to solve the one riddle but none of them are being scanned.Am I scanning the wrong buildings?

And how does the fear gas work?I can understand that it makes you hallucinate, but HOW does it make you believe that you're in another world?

And how does the Riddler MAKE these trophies?
Oh that's just as impressive as being able to rig up the methods in which the trophies are contained. Or in City/Origins those little closeable traps that open. In theory, couldn't Batman just shut off the electricity to all of them?

This really was a fun game and I need to replay it, it's been a few years for me.

reply

Asylum is very creepy and very moody; two reasons why I love it the best of all three I've played. City is good, but it lacks the overwhelming dread of Asylum.
