Personally I really enjoyed this..

I really cannot understand the negative reaction to this version. It seems to me that the BBC were pretty courageous to adapt this in the way they did, ie without the various Hitchcock devices - such as the handcuffs. I thoroughly enjoyed it, as a fresh take on an old favourite, and especially the chemistry between Penrys-Jones and Lydia Leonard's "unhinged hysteric", and the wonderful period innocence of it all.

Sure there were a few goofs, but allowing for the modest BBC budget, I think they did a cracking job.

It was very enjoyable and different enough from previous adaptations.

I thoroughly enjoyed this version as well as Hitchcock's. And speaking of Hitchcock, I find it hard to sit through "Vertigo" or "The Man Who Knew Too Much." And some others. Sometimes Hitch scored, sometimes not. There seems to be a definite "Emperor's New Clothes" aura about him and his work.

I've got four versions of this and I love them all, real 'boys own' stories, the gaffs don't bother me in the least.

You're right about Hitchcock, very hit & miss, but I like most. How some got finance I fail to see. In fact he didn't get finance for "Psycho", the money men pulled out and he had make it with his own dosh, they say thats one of the reasons it's B&W.

Such a small love. Such a little tear.
