Onibus 174

Several posts here refer to "the documentary".

Just to clarify, this documentary is "Onibus 174" (or "Bus 174" as its English title), which was assembled and produced by Jose Padilha in 2002 from live footage shot during the 2000 standoff with the hijacker, which had aired live on television, together with interviews and additional documentary film of Rio's underclass economic and social circumstances from which the hijacker came.

In contrast, Bruno Barreto's 2008 "Ultima Parada 174" (or "Last Stop 174") is a reconstruction of the event, using actors. The two films complement each other, and it's worthwhile watching both.

I love both. The documenary was well done, and I love the live footage. However, the movie clear up a lot of thing for me. Like the confusion over Sandro's mother.
I would , however like to find out what happen to Alex. I know the movie ended with him at the site of Sandro's burial standing next to his real mother, but what happen after that? I hope someone do his story.

There was no confusion over Sandro's mother. That was invented in the movie Last Stop 174..just a storyline, pure fiction. Sandro's real mom was killed in her bar when she was pregnant with twins. Sandro was about 8 yrs old. He then went to live with his aunt until he ran away. On the documentary DVD, Bus 174, there are additional interviews in the Extras section, one of them with his aunt, who explains in detail the death of his mother and Sandro's reaction to it.

There is no Alex that really existed. The aunt mentions confusion in going through the system of trying to locate her nephew and when she thought she'd found him, it turned out to be another kid, named Alex, also part of calendaria massacre. That's all.. then she eventually found Sandro in another jail. No other mention of the first kid was made..it was just confusion because Sandro was called Alex in the street.
