Very disappointing movie.

How this movie made it to the top of the list is an easy guess once you've had a chance to view it. Obviously there is an insiders movement going on which has optioned to manipulate the voting system at IMDB. I found the acting sub par at best and the camera technique overburdening. The population of India is 1.1 billion people--it takes but a micro fraction of it's population to push and manipulate imdb's voting system. It only does a country's film culture true justice by not taking advantage of this system.

Satyajit Ray would not have approved.

Top of what list??This isn't even in the top 250!
What are you crying about???

reply

ya what the hell are u complaining about it isn't in the 250 just like it shouldn't be, but your crazy if you didn't like the movie it's truely impressive than most of the crap Bollywood realeses.

Bluegreenstarfish - going by your logic you're probably some personal enemy of the director.

This movie is a classic, the acting is fantastic, and its no-frills nature (no crappy songs) and taut editing (movie is around 105 mins only, an absolute rarity) makes this nothing less than a path-breaking movie in bollywood. To me, its current rating of 8.7 is in fact low. It should be hitting the 9+ range...

A Wednesday simply rocked.

you are clearly out of your mind. this was one of the best hindi movies in 2008.. maybe you're the singh is king types ..who knows?

personally i loved this movie and consider it to be in my top 10 fav hindi movies

reply

In your opinion, it might be one of the best Hindi movies in 2008, but it's one of the worst movies I've watched this year. But your entitled to your opinion and I'm entitled to mine.

Different strokes for different folks.

Indian film awards are a joke!Always awarding stars and not the real actors!
I stopped watching these crap awards when Kajol was awarded Best Actress for K3G over Tabu(Chandni Bar/Asthitva)

OHH, we are so SORRY that the movie was not upto the standards for his royal Highness Sir BlueGreenStar whatever...seriously Sir, Bollywood is indeed crap, they don't know *beep* about movie-making...it is sacrilege that an Indian movie has been rated so high....
Jokes apart, Dude, going by your post, it seems you are under the preconceived notion that Indian movies are supposed to be mediocre...while Bollywood does dish out a lot of crap, there is some good output as well...& its not just Bollywood

As for Indians trying to tweak the ratings, sorry Sir, but i don't think anyone is so jobless...in any case, the movie isn't in the top 250, so what are you bitching about...
In fact, in reality, it isn't just Indian movies, but Foreign movies (in particular Asian) that suffer under the imdb ratings....Whenever a potentially good movie comes up that is highly rated, it breaks into the top 250, but within a few days, it disappears, thanks due to the Many "mysterious" voters that spring up who give 1's 7 bring the rating down, so that more popular (but less deserving) titles can regain their spots...it is quite a common phenomenon

OMG!
A Wednesday. Is this n Indian Movie. I just can't believe this.
You jst can't describe its excellence in words people.
In India Himesh Reshamiya fans type viewers don't like quality movies like A wednesday, Slumdog etc.
Wednesday was best from 2008.

@bluegreenstarfish-1:
Disappointing, yes, but not for those reasons! It may well be disappointing because Indian aam-aadmi is strongly driven to believe that unless he himself changes things around him, its not going to change! Thats exactly what this movie is about. And if you didn't like it, as you rightly said, its your opinion, which you've a right to keep. But you do not have the right to blame some bogus voting system on the movie makers. No sir, you don't, its more than an opinion there!

@ashu-mr-a: I loathe Himesh, but I still wouldn't go as far as to put Slumdog in the category of A Wednesday. The latter was a class apart and Slumdog is nowhere near it. Movies in this league may well be Black Friday and Mumbai Meri Jaan, but more likely A Wednesday stands awesomely tall in its own category.

The OP clearly doesnt seem to understand that this movie struck a chord with the Indians for a *very obvious* reason. But then lets not be too tough on him and expect him to understand why :)

The movie does have its flaws - the last 20-30 mins make the movie and the rest of it is better than average. But then unless someone understands the importance of the last 20-30 mins to we Indians, he just wont get this movie.

A lot of Hollywood movies (some of them in the Top 250 here) are acclaimed as gems just because Americans can relate to it, some of us think they are extremely average since we cant relate to them. Let us accept that fact and move on.

@OP - if you think Indians are out here to manipulate the rankings, you are a bloody joker. If that were the case, the Top 250 here would be full of Indian movies.

Number of active internet users in India; c.60 million
number of.......US - c.200+ million

Think before you generalise/oversimplify...Indians have more burning issues to worry about than start covert "insiders movements" on IMDB.

Throwing in a "Satyajit Ray" to sound objective and intellectual is a puerile attempt. Do yourself a favour. Criticize the movie all you like, by all means, but please keep your ubstantiated 'analysis' to yourself.

...it's alright, Ma, if I can't please him

What did you like? Tees Maar Khan, I'm sure-guessing? =)

Keep dreaming of movies with item numbers and action shots with special effects ... If you think that those are the actual MOVIES then you are correct. This movie is disappointing for you. A wednesday is a true thriller which is very rare in Bollywood movies. An extraordinary thinking can only make such movies. I hope after watching this movie, all film lover persons from all over the world will agree with me. Its an international standard movie...

Some idiots would just like to see Shahrukh flare his eyebrows or Salman to throw off his shirt. And THAT is acting for these people!

I don't usually bother replying to these posts! But 'A Wednesday' and 'Gangs of Wasseypur' are class-apart movies for me. I can understand if someone don't like GOW for not being family-friendly. But if you are an Indian and don't like 'A Wednesday', something's seriously wrong with you dude! As far as acting is concerned, I think this is one of most power-packed performance ever given by Naseeruddin Shah!

Hats off to the movie-makers!
