I don't agree. There were no nuances to the characters. In fact, the boy had no character at all. By contrast, the Pig had characterizations done within nano seconds of a character's first appearance. Also Auf Der Strecke, though not quite a short and in need of editing for time was better given its gut wrenching twists. Manon on the Asphalt was also better in the feelings surrounding an expected tragedy and the time just before friends and family receive the bad news. New Boy, the Irish short was also better given it being light and heavy at the same time and good natured charm in a boy being able to return to childhood and humor after horrible war experience.

There are numerous holes in Spielzeugland: the boy disappears and then really was just somewhere else. The German soldiers just leave it as an error on their part that they apparently included a non-jewish boy something which would not be supported by their subsequent research.

Yeah it sucked. What kind of idiot mom tries to discourage her kid from asking where the neighbors are going by calling their destination Toyland? Yeah, any little brat would lose all interest in that...stupid movie.

Surprised at the hatred on this board for the film. I remember thinking it was quite good, but I haven't seen it in years so I'm going to watch the whole block of them again.

I'll tell you one thing though, I don't remember the 'Pig' one at all. There's no way that was better.
