I don't get the Mark W. love....

People are saying "it's his best work since The Departed".

Really? He didn't do much acting at all in Date Night. No range...no emotion....not animated at all....he just kinda seemed on auto pilot. Granted, the concept of the character was funny, but did it really command much of a challenging performance from Marky Mark?

And to all the women going crazy about how he looked w/ shirt off. Really? You people are EASY. He looked almost doughy. He has very little definition right now (he put on weight for a boxing role). He has decent arms, average pecs and almost no definition to abs. Obviously he lifted weights just prior to the scene...(which makes anyone look 3x more sculpted than they usually are).

But really.....just an average build. Is the meer fact that he has his shirt off--and is not your husband--the reason you're swooning? How bad are your marriages? (Relax, I'm half kidding here).

And for the record...I think Mark W. was fantastic in The Departed...so I'm not knocking the guy.

He looks like a plastic Ken doll to me. Not attractive.

We'll see whose the filthiest person alive! We'll just see!

THANK YOU, "mahina"...........yeah, by "real people" standards, I thought the guy looked pretty good, but by "Hollywood" standards I thought he was just average looking......

The (over) reaction of Tina Fey's character to him only seemed to underscore the fact.........the way she acted, you got the feeling she saw him as a Matthew McConaughey or Ryan Reynolds (or whomever is currently considered a big Hollywood hunk) kind of "hot".

Then again, I'm a guy, so what do I know.......

You guys all sound jealous. Don't look at his face, his body is hot as hell.

reply

Yes, I totally agree with you. I've seen him in a lot of movies but to me
this was the first one that I thought he looked really smokin' hot in.

reply

Mark W. has always been hot! Sorry fellas!

reply

I haven't heard anyone hailing his acting in this, so I can't speak to that.

As for us "swooning" over him. Yes, he was pretty puffy, but muscular definition isn't generally what makes women swoon. He was smooth, tan, broad chested, and most of all, he had swagger. His character was relaxed, confident, basically, he was sexy. The fact that he simply had his shirt off the whole time is part of it. Not many guys just walk around constantly shirtless, so it's just more attractive, being face to face with his pecs. Plus, we already know who Mark Wahlberg is and we already think he's hot, so he just basically represents "Man Who is Hot." And I think the movie was pretty good at presenting things from the point of view of this random ordinary married couple. So for them, he *would* be the hottest thing they've ever seen.

Hope that helps? I think getting you guys to understand it is a little like trying to explain to me why Paris Hilton is hot.

"Man Who is Hot"..............I like that very much !!!!

Well whoever said that might be a few cards short of a deck....he was barely in the movie.

He's not everyone's cup of tea. I think he's gorgeous although I could do without the long hair.

He was hot in Shooter. <--Great Mark Wahlberg flick.

Steve Carell is sexier. I thought Mark Whal looked buttered and gross seriously he has extreme average looks dont know why he is over hyped always. And saying that he hardly has any role in this movie.

Jealousy is not a virtue op.

I generally fail to find racist thugs attractive, so I don't get it either. If you feel you need help convincing women (and men) of the unattractiveness of Mark Wahlberg, I suggest that instead of criticizing the woodenness of his acting or the doughiness of his physique (both true, by the way), you refer them instead to the court descriptions of him attacking schoolchildren because they were black (http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/markymark1.html) and two men because they were Asian (http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/markymark7.html). One of the Vietnamese men was trying to help Wahlberg at the time, so to thank him, Wahlberg blinded him.

This is just ridiculous...females will try to justify their ignorance from many different angles.

People can change. They learn the error of their ways. That was 20 years ago, he hasn't done anything like that since he got his act together. I think he is very attractive, and knowing that he was actually able to grow up and change his life makes him even more so.

THATS THE BEST Mark W.

reply

I was seriously expecting a "Good Vibrations" closing number from him.

reply

Yeah. I mean if an actor isn't running around waving their arms above their head yelling, they're just not acting hard enough.

The sexual tension between Mark and Tina made me feel he was even more attractive. I do find him to be sexy and kind of a mystery. His previous roles may also influence our thinking. I found him quite desirable.
