Am I the only one who saw this and lost faith?

The idea that my vote may not ever count (or may have not counted in the last two elections) infuriates me. I was a party volunteer. Pounded the pavement standing up for my candidates and have always advocated for voting in each election. My thing is always "I don't care WHO you vote for - just vote!". Especially in the Presidential Election. Vote flipping and hacking into touch-screen systems in literally less than 60 seconds? I feel, though for different reasons, exactly like that woman I saw on the news at the Democratic Convention. Every four years, I call every one I know and tell them to get to the polls. This year, someone's gonna have to call me. Why vote if it doesn't count?

reply

yep, me too. I think I'm done with this country if it happens this time around; there's too much to lose and no one willing to fight

reply

I swear... I don't care who my candidate is, I want them to assure me that my vote is exactly that - my vote. And after all the undeclared votes and mishaps from the last two elections - somebody could say SOMETHING about assuring the American people that their choice will be protected. ::sighs:: I'm so disheartened, but I'm glad I'm not the only one who's paying attention.

reply

Nope, you're not the only one. After the ugly 2000 election, I got off my ass and did the same thing as you in 2004 -- I went door to door every day for the two months leading up to Election Day trying to get people to vote, no matter who their choice was. Watching the results that November, I felt *more* sick than I did in 2000. I *knew* something weird was going on, but because of the "media cover-ups" (or whatever you want to call them) I couldn't point to anything specific, except that there were various complaints out there, especially in Ohio. Now, with this brilliant film, I have the answers! The system is even more crooked than I could ever have imagined. Until I see solid proof that this sorry ass Government is *really* trying to change things, I'm done with elections. Why waste my time. You don't have any real choices anyway -- pick Idiot A or Idiot B. Decide which is the lesser of two (or more) evils. That's what politics amount to, because even the half-way decent ones can't truly get anything done in this convoluted system. It's all a joke. And then there's a good chance that after all the trouble I go to to make wise choices and bother with the hassles of voting that it isn't going to be counted anyway? No thanks. Enough is enough, and I've had more than enough. As our "President" once said: " . . . fool me once, shame on -- shame on you. Fool me -- you can't get fooled again."

It's so true - as the election campaigns march on into October, the issue of our votes actually counting for anything other than costing us even MORE tax money has never been addressed. Any efforts made to educate ourselves on candidates is a waste and I totally agree with all of your sentiments! I wish everyone in the country could see this film - I know everyone should! Thanks for responding and making me feel less like the 'odd man out' - when I actually can give a damn to join in with talking politics, no one wants to talk about our votes, so again? what the hell's the point?

reply

Well I already had lost faith when I watched this film, so no. It's a scary world we live in today.

reply

I'm watching it now. Honestly, I'm on the edge of tears. What's happened to this country? And there's no one to fight it. Not even a ballsy, honest journalist to expose this for what it is. Where is the Edward R, Murrow of this generation?

Hello, I'm a recovering crackhead and this is my retarded sister. Can we have some welfare please?

reply

It's so true - I keep hoping someone awesome like Anderson Cooper will just pick this ball up and run with it, but so far? not so interested. Someone's gotta be, don't they? Depressing thought if no one is...

It's the times we live in. Nobody really cares about things like election fraud, they are all more interested in reading tabloids and celebrity gossip magazines. Yet further proof that the human race is gradually getting more stupid all the time.

No, you are not the only one. With the amount of corrupt politicians, greedy corporations and organized crime syndicates down through the years having a tremendous effect on our country, it does not suprise me in the least that 'voting counts' and process can be manipulated to favor an administration or agenda.

This documentary is disturbing because when a government that preaches democracy, but cannot make sure that all counties have a proper amount of voting machines is ridiculous. And even the possiblity that certain voters' votes were not counted makes me wonder how many times in different elections this has taken place. And now we have 'computer software' that can be easily manipulated and tampered with.

This documentary shows that both Florida 2000 and Ohio 2004 all had important republicans in place in the positions necessary to be able to alter vote counts. They had ties to the Bush administration. Oh and low and behold, it just happens that these two states played key roles in deciding the election.

I like watching documentaries like this because it shows that the 'EXTREMELY RICH AND POWERFUL' still excercise an incredible amount of influence on how events go down in this country. And it will not change as long as we remain a 'materialistic society'. That is reality and there are several decades of proof to document.

I'm just glad to see so many responses - I agree with everything you've pointed out and grow more discouraged as the election nears. I originally thought that I would vote for the first candidate who publicly took on this egregiously documented situation. No one has and apparently no one is going to. I will vote my conscience, though it bears very little weight - the only thing that helps is that others are feeling the same pains in this election.

This documentary didn't make me lose faith, but it did piss me off. I'm a Republican who used to think 'Voter Registration Fraud' and (more to the point of this movie) 'Voter Fraud' was a practice dominated by the Democrats. Times have changed for the worse. I still believe that paper ballots and an audit system that can be monitored by both parties on sight is the best way to go. I would be willing to wait a week for the results to make sure every real vote got counted.

reply

Amen to that - A week or even two is not too much to ask in order to make sure all valid votes are counted by both parties!

reply

A week or too whats with the hurry?

election day should be a nation holiday then more people would vote with more people involved more votes would be counted honestly

///!sig!\\\ I view in flat, I AM politically correct, ask me about my politics

reply

That would be a great idea... there's probably some stupid reason why it's not though, because it makes too much sense!

reply

I can plainly see that it would be a total waste of time to watch this biased film. Another liberal effort to bash Republicans and using Ohio, the state that kept George Bush in the White House.

Listen people, it is so easy to deceive and fool people by drawing false conclusions. The fact is that there is extensive polling and by election day there are few surprises. No surprises in 2008. I don't hear about any high level investigations of voter fraud, only complaining by fringe groups.

Don't believe anything in this film and the best policy would be to ignore it.

reply

Facts are facts. Whether you watch this film or not, the content is insanely easy to find and verify. It'd be so much easier to pretend it's all nonsense. I really wish I could do that.

Regardless there is no reason at all why the electronic voting machine shouldn't print off a piece of paper to verify where your vote went. If there is no paper trail then you can't audit the election. That is why you get sales receipts when you buy stuff, to make sure you were not double charged for anything.
