Danes' performance
I have seen the real Grandin in docs and Danes' performance of her is way over the top, it's almost comical. The real Grandin is not as erratic, shaky and wide eyed as portrayed in the film.

Consider that by the time Grandin was appearing in documentarys, she was older and presumably had become more comfortable with her condition.
Danes was portraying the earlier part of her life, when she was in high school, boarding school, college, etc. Unless you knew her personally, you have no way of knowing what she was like back then, because there would have been no film of her from that time.
Your opinion is really of no consequence here.
Temple Grandin HERSELF has acknowledged that Danes portrayed her perfectly.
So there.
bye now...
That is how Temple was when she was younger. Ask Ms. Grandin herself.
shareI saw an interview with Temple and she said that Dane captured very accurately her anxiety and how she was back then. She says that now (i think she is 59 or 60 yrs old) she has controlled herself a lot and she almost doesn´t look autistic anymore.
shareBasically, what everyone here already said. Though I would just add that at the last scene in the movie you see how she has a much better "handle" on things and can handle all the questions being thrown at her, etc. Claire not only did an amazing job accurately portraying Temple when she was younger, but also the progression of Temple's being more able to handle challenging situations for her.
shareYes! Not only did Grandin say that Danes' portrayal was accurate but Danes technique shines in the role.
2 cute 2 listen!
I almost never watch drama type movies but i have a thing for movies portraying real life people. I was watching a sport show and while on commercial break i started browsing through the channels today and i saw this movie and Claire Danes was acting "weird" so i thought i watch this till the sports show was back on. That never happened:) I was so caught with her performance and the movie in general that i forgot about everything else. Her performance, for me, is award winning. I don't know how the "real" Temple Grandin behaves or acts in real life but Danes was exceptional. Fantastic movie all in all and Danes was excellent. M2c.
sharewhat a fail this thread. Claire Danes was amazing, no doubt. Best TV actress out there imo.
Feel your heart beat.
I turned this on late into the film (I saw it listed and wanted to see it), just at the point where she sees the cattle moving in curves and she was trying to explain to the morons how everything they were doing was inefficient and why.
I instantly thought of John Candy's character on SCTV (not Billy Sol Hurok) but one of the others, a wild eyed brusque one that spoke in shouting tones. I thought afterwards after seeing that Catherine O'Hara was in it -I missed her scenes, except for a brief one second glimpse at the Christmas party and a later hug- that perhaps Danes took inspiration from Candy.
Other than that, the OP is full of crap.
Danes performance is spectacular, and leaps and bounds better than anything else she's ever done.
