Being a very critical movie viewer I just watched Dead Snow and I have to say I really loved this movie. Imo it's a nice littly gem. From my experience I know that the average imdb rating can differ a lot from my personal taste. But in this case I'm kind of surprised. On the other hand I'm really glad, because when I see what *beep* movies get 8.0 around here and better I don't want to be part of this 'mainstream opinion'. So lets go:
1) The average American Joe doesn't like the movie cuz it's not in his language and he is too ignorant to enoy a foreign movie with subtitles.
2) The average zombie film geek is pissed of cuz it's "not the same as *beep* Romero". Everything that adds something new to the zombie genre makes him nervous and uncomfortable.
3) The average moviegoer has luckily no taste at all. Good movies are only for people who can appreciate them :D
You know I am getting really tired of the freakin comments on imdb about Americans. I am an American woman and I love foreign films. In fact, I prefer them to American films and I have many AMERICAN friends who enjoy foreign films just like me. So before you stereotype and put all Americans in one category (e.g. I hate this movie because it's not in English and I don't like to read subtitles), how bout you learn from some REAL Americans who might beg to differ on your stereotypical babble on imdb. This goes for the OP of this post and anyone else running their mouth about ALL Americans being so ignorant that they don't want to watch a foreign film. I get so tired of being insulted everytime I come to this website! I just watched Dead Snow from Netflix and I gave it a 4 out of 5. I really liked it and thought it was enjoyable and fun.
I'm American too (51yo male), and I liked this too. I kind of tend to agree with "foreign" posters that deride a lot of us. Speaking just for myself, I only know 1 language, where as lots of my friends(from all over) know 2 or 3 or more. I tend to think I'm too old to learn at this stage. I too love foreign films, but it helps to have the dubbing especially when watching in a group. I usually go back and watch in original language (w/subtitles) at a later date. But I do get your point! Peace!!
I have not failed, I've found 10,000 ways that won't work.
I only remember one guy getting killed by a tree (the guy who got his intestines pulled out) and he had been bashed in the head by a zombie first. There was also one zombie who got knocked off the snowmobile because to the branch.
but this movie isnt good bad script takes ages for actual zombies bad acting not funny low budget no action not enough gore for a zombie film
YOU *beep* DISGUSTING ABHORENT *beep* WITH BAD TASTE CALLING THIS A *beep* GEM GO TAKE A *beep* IN YOUR HAND AND SMEAR IT ALL OVER YOUR FACE AND the its suppose to be a bad movie excuse wont fly it was not an exploitation film it was not fun the walking dead pilot is a 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 times better than this
hidden gems are movies like winters bone, martyrs, inside, high tension, piranha 3d, monsters etc
As psychotic as l-j-s14's response is.....I gotta agree! Dead Snow is just terrible in pretty much every way, though I did find the set detail decent and the outdoor cinematography was quite good. The problem? The story. It's an interesting concept that has nothing good done with it. Craptacular effort.
You were watching a zombie comedy called 'Dead Snow' about nazi zombies for the story? What did you want them to do with it by the way? You hear nazi zombies and it's pretty much a done deal.
The OP is right on at least one point too, lots of US people hate watching movies with subs. Obviously not all of them by any means, but it's such a large percent that it's easy to call it the vast majority. I don't agree with a lot of the US generalizing that goes on around here on imdb, but the subtitles thing is one I happen to agree with.
But also, this movie is great for zombie movie fans who don't put so much stock into the story aspect. Not that I mind a great metaphorical zombie allegory (like how all of Romero's movies say something about society/politics/etc), they don't all have to do that. I liked this movie because it was gory, funny, had an awesome setting/set design, and most importantly no cgi! Most of it is practical effects, and I always appreciate that.
Add in some sexy foreign girls (who actually do some bashing of their own), some pretty funny comedy and a set up involving nazi zombies looking for their stolen gold, and the main thing in my mind isn't the story...

Exactly, we were watching a nazi zombie movie and thats a good reason I only give this a 6, because the wait for whats promised is far too long. You wait and wait and wait for the zombies and you finally get to see them after nearly an hour of watching a bunch of boring characters crack sex jokes and drink. Barely any of the first hour is interesting. Yes, it had nice scenery and good location but not enough to save it from the rest of its problems. I found the special effects to be okay. Some looked fine, others were cheap looking, especially some of the spurting blood. Most of it was not overly funny either for me. Those that thought it was funny are not wrong, they just have a different sense of humour. So, this is one film where I feel the imdb rating is actually pretty accurate, not terrible but certainly not great either.
l-j-s14 is totally wrong on saying there was bad acting, that the movie was not funny and that there was no action and not enough gore for zombie film. l-j-s14 is way off saying all this.
drbreakfastmachine were you watching this movie or some sort of My Little Pony movie? I ask this because I don't know how you didn't see the gore.
