Shockwave?

I'm watching the first episode of this and my thought is this: didn't they already make this show, called Shockwave on the History channel? It's pretty much the same footage, mostly the same stories. Why do we need 2 of these shows?

Shockwave was a better show IMO but Destroyed in Seconds has had some videos I've not seen before. That's saying something as I'm a reality show junkie. Mind you, I mean REALITY like Cops and Speeders and half the programming on TruRV -- not game shows like Survivor.

I hate to disappoint you but I too was disappointed to hear that some of the scenarios shown in Cops are staged. My source was a member crew filming a commercial in which I was an extra. He had worked on the show or had a close friend that works or worked for the Cops producers. This sounds like a friend's brother's cousin's neighbor has a former in law type of situation so I took it with a grain of salt, but it did sound legit.

Sorry, I've heard just the opposite about Cops. Since the poo hit the fan with Real Stories of the Highway Patrol, the producers of Cops religiously keep things on the up and up.

Last I heard, the producers of Real Stories ended the show and went into hiding to avoid lawsuits. What started it all? A stupid off-camera exclamation by a producer to "Go get 'em" during a high-speed chase that ended poorly.

Hate to disappoint you but you either heard wrong, are not remembering it right, or were completely mislead by someone not knowing what they were talking about.

COPS does not "stage scenarios"
It is all live calls the Officers are responding to. There have been a few instances of editing which created a false impression to the viewers of what has happened and this has lead to some agencies not allowing COPS to be filmed there, but the scenarios themselves are not "staged".

You are confusing the situation with Real Stories of the Highway Patrol which uses "Recreations of actual events" with actors and interviews with the real participants, rather than filmed live on the call like COPS. It turned out that some of their "recreations" were more like "Fabrications" on a couple of episodes.

This show is nothing new. Not by a long shot. Notice how most of these videos look like they were shot sometime in the 80s? That's because they were. Discovery took a bunch of clips of disasters that have been used and re-used hundreds of times, and tried to package it as a new show.

Did they honestly think nobody would notice??
