what happened to the guy who lost his leg?

OK, dumb thread title I know, but I have possibly missed an episode or two here as im in the UK. I watched the first two episodes (2 hour pilot) and really enjoyed it and I know Franks partner Tommy lost the lower half of his leg when the old woman drove her car back into his leg sandwiching it between two cars.

The thing is, ive just watched the episode of the heist in the restaurant and he appeared walking around like nothing happened.

Feel free to flame me if I have missed something here, but this really is annoying me massively !

Hi zardon, So Tommy has a prosthetic leg but he's not hobbling around ect. He quit working as a street cop because he didnt want his condition to prevented him from doing his job properly hence the office job. No limping, which I think is realistic, he lost his leg just below the knee so I dont think he'd struggle too much when walking.

ah right thank you. I think I missed an episode so I wasn't sure if details were explained or shown - he was basically running around like nothing had happened in the one I saw. But yeah I guess what you say makes sense. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Depending on the health of the person, their fitness, how good the prosthetic is, and how they adapt to it during rehab, a below the knee amputation wouldn't be that noticeable when walking around --it wouldn't be like an above the knee amputation, where there would be a noticeable limp because they have to lift the hip to walk.

Take a look at some of the Paralympic athletes who have had below the knee amputations -especially the skiers, its very difficult to tell this when watching. I think there are even a few firefighters who have below the knee amputations and have returned to full active duty -there was even a competitor on "Survivor" who had this type of amputation.

-a lot of people assume that if someone has a prosthetic leg they would have an obvious limp and can't do things that others can do, but that isn't always so depending on where the amputation was.

when one of the characters in jag lost his leg..he didnt' limp either, i had to keep asking myself, i saw the eppy where he lost his leg right....

yeah...when i look at some of the paralympics, it's hard to tell, the ones who have been amputated, or not born with one at all, and other things like that...

susan

i think that the only actor that i've seen though with real amputations has been jim byrnes.....but since he lost both his legs, he really does have to work harder at walking, then someone with just one lost

In episode "Never Let Me Down Again" he was was fighting to stay in the police force. He was declared medically fit but the chief didn't want him back so Frank Leo tried to offer him a desk job at the union.

That was a different cop altogether who had lost his leg whilst on an army tour in Afghanistan and had come back to work as a cop and concealed his having a prosthetic leg. He came to the union for help because he knew Frank's partner also had the same type of amputation.

Take a look at the current season of Survivor: Nicaragua. There is a woman there who has a prosthetic leg. She doesn't limp at all that I can see, and she can do most anything that the other competitors can do, and that is one grueling competition. I hope this cures you of your biases against amputees.
