Rules say nothing about matching shape

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hole_in_the_Wall_(US_game_show)

The only rules are to stay in play area and to clear the wall without breaking it or going in the pool. So why do these nutjobs try so hard to match the shape of the hole?

Because if they don't match the shape, they could be seen as not trying, and could lose a point on a marginal call, like if the wall hit them but they stayed out of the pool.

I prefer to think that it's because they are just not smart enough to outsmart the wall.

I agree _ I kept saying that to myself. They are idiots.

Anyone will try to match the shape first, then find the better ways to pass those walls later. But this US version of walls are too fast to change their minds.

You'd think so, wouldn't you? I keep waiting for the contestants to figure it out in each round but most just continue to try and match. This again gives me the impression that they are putting the most dim witted people they can find on the show.

I saw one version on youtube (from Sweden or something) where they had bikini chicks competing. At least in that situation you didn't really care how dumb they were.

I'm pretty sure I caught part of an episode where someone figured out they could get through the hole using a non-matching shape, and after he got through, the hosts were all, "NOPE, doesn't count!" And they flashed a slide showing what shape the contestant SHOULD'VE configured their body into. I remember thinking that made no sense. The guy was clever enough to figure out something simpler. Let him have it.
