Why Dave Coulier probably didn't roast.

I think the reason Dave Coulier didn't roast Saget was because Dave doesn't do dirty stand-up (per his IMDB bio). You need to do nasty jokes to make a roast funny so the producers didn't want him to do a roast (tell it to Norm). He's also on some Nickelodeon show so he's probably contractually obligated to keep things clean.

No. Even people with a 'clean' image usually go dirty in a roast. From Cloris Leachman to Bea Arthur, people with 'clean' images use roasts as an opportunity to go 'dirty'.

Good post, mistahtom. I was wondering why Coulier didn't roast, and you answered it for me. Thanks

reply

Well Norm MacDonald was the funniest one so you are completely wrong about having to be dirty.

reply

he's probably just not a stand up comedian, so why bother putting him up on stage?

reply

Both Dave Coulier and Norm MacDonald are stand-up comedians. I watched Dave Coulier on the HBO Detroit Comedy Jam in the 1980s. I also used to watch Norm MacDonald's stand-up on HBO specials (before he joined SNL).

reply

The OP is right. Coulier is a standup and known for being clean. In fact he is partof the comic group called The Clean Guys of Comedy. so yeah its just a matter of him holding up his reputation, but he said he still went to support his friends.

reply

I thought Coulier was intimidated by being up agaisnt actually funny guys.

reply

You're right. The reason he didn't roast is because he's not funny.

reply

Dave Coulier clean? Yeah right, not after hearing that Alanis Morrisette song about escapades she did with him in a theater. The song you "oughta Know" was about him.

dave coulier was so corny and square that even knowing that the alanis morrisette song was about him doesn't erase his squeaky clean image

Yeah, for being the comedian on the full house show he is horrible, he is extremely NOT funny

reply

Just because he got head in a theater doesn't mean he doesn't want to keep his comedy clean. There is actually no correlation.

reply

Maybe Coulier wrote Norms stuff because I know Norm is WAY funnier than his jokes were during the roast (whether they were intentionally not funny is up for debate)

reply

Actually that's not up for debate. They were intentionally cheesy and lame. Norm has made it pretty clear what he was doing.

I thought it was strange that he wasn't among the roasters, considering he's a comedian and friends of the person being roasted.
I think that's a bit of a problem with these Comedy Centeral Roasts is that, they hardly have anyone actually close to the person being roasted actually roasting them; it's always the same group of d-list comedians that hardly know the roastee, or have never met them.

I was also disappointed Scott Bakula didn't roast him; I've heard he and Bob are good friends (which I think is one of the reasons they kept cutting to him) I wish Laurie Laughlin had roast him too, maybe even Jodie. Sure, none of those people are comedians per se, but they can and have been funny on occasion, but they also know Bob and the jokes could have been more persoanlized instead of the generic stuff we get every year.
