Why do comedians roast the comics that are doing the roasting?

They seem to take more pot shots at the comics rather than the guest of honor. I thought this was the roast of bob saget, not let's piss on everyone there.

This goes back to the Dean Martin roasts; at a roast, everyone is fair game.

Hmmm, I didn't say everyone at a raost isn't fair game. It's fine if comics want to devote a couple of lines each to some of the guests. I just don't like it when they seem to devote several paragraphs each to some of the guests rather than devoting most of their material to the roastee.

Few of the comedians actually knew Bob Saget but they all know each other. So I think it was easier for them to come up with jokes about their fellow comics. That's part of the problem with the Comedy Central Roasts.

yeah, as someone said about the Chevy roast; if the people dont know the guest, it sucks. if they have the new generation of comedians roasting Chevy, what's the point? it's much more funny when it's personal and meaningful rather than some dude you don't know trying to roast you like you're friends... :(

That's usual for a roast.

Procrastination fools you into thinking you succeed merely by not failing.

Answer: It would be because the roast would be 30 minutes long and not very funny.

When they actually do the roasts they are 3-4 hours long. Then they chop it down to an hour and a half. Imagine 4 hours of Saget jokes...
