Bob choked up on Norm....

If you noticed that awkward moment, and if you also attended the roast, would you share to the TV audience what was it that made Bob Saget cry?

I see it this way. Norm's reading of the paper and his anti-comedy set were both a protest against the nature of these roasts. Specifically, 90% of the jokes were cheap laughs derived from shock value. I would point specifically to jokes about straight people being gay and jokes about pedophilia. You'll also notice that the more of those types of jokes one of the roasters delivered, the more it was obvious they felt more deserving of Saget's success than Saget. IIRC, Greg Giraldo was the worst offender.

Norm's joke about the well-wishers and throwing him down a well was actually spot-on. They hate that he's so successful and gets primo girls. Norm, on the other hand, seems to think Bob has been a good, humble guy who got lucky and made the most of it.

Norm's final words to Bob made Bob choke up because they were obviously sincere. The last thing Bob expected that night was for someome to mock the roast itself at the risk of looking stupid, and then to top it off by being the most sincere in his words. When others finished displaying their envy, their "but you're the greatest" sendoffs rang hollow.

As a side note, I noticed Norm laugh at Saget mocking what appears to be a legitimate gambling problem. It was truly funny to him because it was true and the joke was clever. Bob seemed to deliver it without hatred and more of a way of telling Norm that he cares about him and he's not fooling anyone.

Both classy guys.

So according to you, Norm was basically there to s*** on the very thing he was invited to attend, that Saget voluntarily signed up for, and that Norm could have easily said no to?

So Norm is basically - according to you - someone who is too dumb to understand that the people on the dais are roasting Bob Saget because THAT'S WHAT THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO DO, and responded to that by being an anti-roaster, on a roast?

Either you are extremely dumb, or Norm MacDonald is.

Norm once said on a Howard Stern interview that both he and Saget thought that Artie might have died that night because of an outburst on HS so they were both very emotional that night. I also think that's the reason Norm pulled his anti-comedy routine, to spite Comedy Central who I think he believed concealed information about Artie.
