One thing that made no sense...

If Van Wilder came out in 2002 and this is suppose to be the prequel, so it's set considerably earlier then 2002...

Why does Van have an iPhone? Those came out in 2007/2008. Did they need the product placement money or just forget the time frame this film is set in?

he also had a xbox360 :P

If they had the iPhones & XBOX 360 in this movie, they should of just made it a part 3 instead of a prequel, they should of made it as Van Wilder's younger brother.

reply

So you want this to be set in 1995? (since it was his 7th year in the first movie)

I think it's good they broke the continuity, if they used phones, cars, music and clothes from no later than 1995.... The movie would suck.

I don't know if I'm right but...didn't he graduate high school at the beginning of the movie? So he's at Coolidge university...I don't get it - why would it be a prequel?

reply

It's a prequel because in the first film he was in his 7th year at Coolidge. If you still can't figure it out you should go back to school.

That phone belonged to the actor who chose to use it over a period phone.

reply

he also said 'W.T.F.' an acronym invented a little after the internet, which they didnt really have in 95 lol

reply

Yeah, the phone, the game system, the cars, the lingo, the music. It was all present day. That's not the point though, it's a 'turn off your brain and chill with a bong' type flick. But for a STV prequel, i've seen worse...

This is exactly what i was going to say. This movie was not meant to be the next coming, it was just a movie that the studio felt would bring in a little extra revenue for them. And in reading all the posts on this, everybody says they hated it but by watching it the studios got what they wanted. I liked the movie, it had a good story and the characters were funny.

The one thing I didn't get was that this movie was entitled Freshman Year but if you watch the original there's a scene where Tara Reid's character was told Van didn't come out his shell til mid-Sophmore year so basically the Van Wilder we know and love didn't start til after Freshman year so that's one thing that confuse me.

I Love Aerith Alyssa Leinhart Calvert

reply

ya that was one of the original comments around when this film was first announced - and im hopin i can just enjoy it as a movie but sounds like they didnt try very hard to have any continuities lol

reply

Just to clarify this movie isn't actually a Prequel - you'll notice its Van Wilder 3 - Freshman Year. The reason I say this is during the scene where the Dean meets with Van and warns him of the rules etc. he also states that he knew his father and that he was a trouble maker - This is actually Van Wilder the second (Character) It's Ryan Reynolds Son as such... Explaining why it has the lingo, Phones, Consoles etc - It is present day.

Jenni340, you've written this 3 times and it doesn't make it any more true.
How in the world could Van Wilder have an 18 year son if the film does indeed take place in 2009? And of course it makes sense that the first movie never mentioned a son especially one who would have been 12 by 2002.

This is just a bad film with continuity errors.

reply

I was under the impression this was his son. That's what many people have been saying here.

The way I see it, the writers intend us to think it is 1995 but they really didn't care. So they used iPhones and modern stuff.

They didn't care about this movie and neither should you.
