Tourism Promo

Did anyone else think this just seemed like a blatant tourism promotion, what with the many, many landscape shots, the not so subtle history lesson on the towns which they were driving into... I mean, it was an OK movie, but it just seemed like a great big ad.

I enjoyed the movie. I don't see anything wrong with showing the countryside of Australia and I thought it did a better job of that than the film 'Australia' which had CGI images involved, showing landscapes that didn't even exist.

This movie was full of old jokes that we've heard before but put into virtually small skits, the towing scene (We've heard that joke before) and the aviation scenes. Roy Billing was rolling them out one after another. I've heard them all before and even Shane Jacobsen gets in on it after Billing delivers another. We see Shane in the back seat start to smile. He gets it.

The Australian movie scene desperately needs people who can tell a good story and use the genuine Australian country side and its characters as a back drop. Enough of the boyfriend girlfriend relationship studies that we get plied with year after year slowly numbing us to death. Thanks Shane and Paul and Co. OK, its not a film masterpiece, but your're starting to head the right way. Middle Australia is starving for stories set in their country that will entertain. And we can relate to these events. I had a small niece who drowned on a property and the impact on the family was devastating. My mother died at 49 and I can remember my father was completely lost after her death which was totally unexpected. So the storyline is totally plausable.

I also think Bundaberg Brewed Drinks must have paid to get their products in there. Every time a fridge is opened or a beverage is bought (including the sarsparilla that the dad keeps asking for) it is a drink from BBD. They're great drinks don't get me wrong (they were one of my clients once) but god it was so obvious.

Not as bad a promotion as a David Janssen movie I saw in the 1960s. Every time Janssen walked into a hotel room he was carrying an unopened carton of "Kent" cigarettes. I saw the "Kent" cartons so many times I remember them although I have forgotten the name of the film!

These have grown in popularity over the years. For a long time in Victoria you could only get the Ginger Beer, or years ago, you could get a Root Beer made with hops, and was like a non alcoholic beer. Was not bad actually.

Once Charlie and Boots got to Queensland, I don't think the Bundaberg drinks being in abundance would be that far fetched.

Have to agree but it was harmless enough and it was good to see them take the inland road rather than the usual coast route I have seen alot of Australia but still haven't seen that Big Koala

The big Koala is one of the ones I have seen. I have seen quite a bit of the country, but have mostly flown to where I have visited.
