Didn't really get the... *spoiler*

Can anyone please explain to me what the "scam" was? John got smacked in the face with a plank, and then they "pretended" to shoot Virgil and somehow Virgil got rich... What exactly happened??

reply

Virgil was corrupt. He was assisting and turning a blind eye to a payout for an accident and injuries that didn't happen, falsifying the investigation to get a cut of the settlement. His biggest sin was doing what lawyers do without being a member of the Bar.

Ahhh I get it! But I didn't understand why John had to get hit in the face? What happened while he was knocked out and who were those guys?

I don't get it either. I looked at it from every direction and still can't come up with a "legitimate" scam here. I think writer-director Hue was too lazy to come up with a good plot so he just glazed over everything and hoped we would all "get it." Well, I didn't.

I came to the boards wondering the same thing. The only thing I can figure is the director did it for dramatic effect which doesnt fit in a psuedo indie comedy drama loosely based on Dante's Inferno.

I actually sort of enjoyed the film despite the problems. I was a bit surprised that Steve's character didnt have a bigger night out than going to that Ocean's 11 club and buying the tickets.

I agree, it makes no sense. Still, let's give it a shot.

Virgil says something about there being a real accident and the stripper / school teacher really getting hurt. So I'm guessing the accident happened in a regular car and the scam was they upped the ante by claiming the car was in fact a much more expensive model (which they tried to track down, but never found) ?

So far so good, but then why fake Virgils death and scare the main character only to have Virgil call the office seconds later ? Were they trying to discredit him ? Not really as Virgil reported in saying he did OK.

I don't get it.
