Whoops!

They either hired a fire department consultant who knew little about fire department or they did not listen to him or her. Least wrong was the scene where they rescued the kid who fell down the shaft. Any fire department that has a ladder or rescue company would have responded these to this type of accident in addition to or in place of the engine company. Most engine companies in departments that have a rescue or truck company do not carry the proper tools to do this work. However, if the company officer thought the patient was critical enough, he or she would begin rescue efforts while waiting for the other company. One of the tools that a rescue or truck company would have used for this rescue would have been something other than the little "sawzall" that they used to cut the temporary wooden railing. And why would the captain look at his watch when giving an ETA to the scene. It matters little what time it is, what matters is distance and traffic on the streets. Finally, on this one call, no fire department, or any other public safety agency I know of, uses "short wave" radio to dispatch calls. So why did Grace hear the call on a "short wave" radio? Now let's skip to the end of the movie. Any fire department of which I have been a part, would fire the firefighters and captain who allowed them to drive a fire vehicle with lights and siren to stop a wedding. That is completely dangerous, to put the lives of the public in danger when not responding to save a life. All real first responders take this responsibility very seriously, and take offense at the way the movie portrayed this. Overall, I enjoyed the story, but it was ruined by the terrible flaws.
