This does not make sense

Carlota saw Cristobal when she went into the confessional and took off. She knows that there is a new priest in town and is even preparing a welcoming party for him along with the other church ladies. It does not make sense to me that she has not put two and two together and figured out that the new priest is, in fact, Cristobal. I don't understand why she has not tried to make sense of what happened in the confessional. There has been no scene in which she talks herself through what just happened. It is almost as if the scene in the confessional was out of sequence or something.
