Hannibal, the Premiere Episode

Anyone know who the guy was that played him? He looks familiar, reminds me of Kurt Angle. But he also reminds me of some MMA fighter, either from Pride or UFC.

Alexander Castro from American Gladiators. You can go here http://www.variety.com/review/VE1117939829.html?categoryid=1264&cs =1 to read the Variety article about the series.

I think they took a few liberties with how he probably really looked.

It's a fun show to watch within the context of Ancient battles. However, the debate is still open about "Old Testament" being treated as actual history. I was watching a documentary about Israeli archaeologists finding clues into the Old Testament stories from King David and Moses to Ester and there have been some pretty interesting theories coming out from a lot of them stating that the Ancient Hebrews may in fact have been the Canaanites that they say they defeated in the Bible.

Basically, they feel that most of the Old Testament was written by Jewish scholars who were exiled in Babylon, and the purpose of weaving the story of the Jews was to establish continuity moving forward as a people. Very interesting stuff and the their theories are still being tested against more evidence.

Look at the sculptures of Hannibal - he looks nothing like the dumb savage he was casted as. Caesar didnt really look caesarish either.
