Accuracy Please!

I just watched the Marathon episode. I love this series, but they made two glaring errors.

First, the continuously depict Spartans (with their Lambda symbol shields)fighting as Athenians in the battle. That's like showing the Brits at Waterloo flying the American flag during the battle.

Second, at the end, they say the second Persian invasion of Greece (led by Xerxes) took place 40 YEARS after the Battle of Marathon (490 BC).

The main battles of the Xerxes invasion took place in 480 and 479 BC. 10-11 years later.

I just expect more accuracy from the History Channel.

Not only that, they mentioned Hippias as being in charge of Athens in 540BC, but Pisistratus was still tyrant at that time. Hippias didn't become tyrant until 527BC and wasn't tossed out until 510BC.

What do you expect from the History channel? They are terrible with details.

Those who would promote the torture for their own sense of security are cowards.

That's because the point of the History Channel is not to appeal to actual historians on more than a cheap entertainment level. It's a lot like popular science, light on details to help the average person get it.

Apparently my signature defines who I am... so I made it just this

History really isn't an essential element of this show. They've had at least 3 shows about biblical characters(one of which featured Moses doing Kung Fu with his magic staff). I mean I was half expecting episodes about Aragorn or Conan The Barbarian & their battle tactics. The depictions of battle are incredibly stupid it basically consists of really ott looking single combat.

Republicans dont watch stand up, theyre busy watching cartoons, trying to see who's gay.

Maybe they should call themselves the "Sort of History" Channel.

So, are you suggesting King David didn't exist? Pardon me if I'm misreading your intent--it can be a bit difficult on boards.
