We've kind of seen it before!

I don't know if anyone remembers a movie back in 1979 called "Voices". It starred Amy Irving and Michael Ontkean. It also was about a romance between a young deaf girl and a musician. Amy gave a truly believable performance as one hearing impaired; she also used sign language in the film. The movie had wonderful acting as well as a marvelous soundtrack by Willie Nelson, Tom Petty and especially the love ballad by Burton Cummings, a very talented Canadian singer songwriter and driving force behind the group the Guess Who, in the 70s.
