Shabash Sh-sh-sh-shahid!!!

I think this will go down as Shahid's breakout movie. Yeh, I know that Vivaah and Jab We Met were thought to be it. But from an acting standpoint, the distance from his last performance is immeasurable. There was no acting performance in Kaminey that was near his. There were certainly good ones, but he didn't have to compete with Tabu like Irrfan Khan did in Maqbool.

I was just looking at Vishal Bhardwarj's director filmography. He should just hire a composer. I don't find any of his music compelling, but if you look at his directing record, he clearly is one of India's classiest directors. Definitely a much more reliable, trustworthy director than Ram Gopal Verma. I consider Satya 10 of 10. To me Kaminey is 9 of 10. I think a few key roles could have been cast better. That Sherpa who played Tashi wasn't up to the level of some of Bhardwarj's crooks. I would like Irrfan Khan or Atul Kulkarni as Tashi. I really would like Sanjay Dut as Bhope Bau (but then people would claim Shahid got too much big name help). And if ONLY J. D. Chakravarthy could have played the crazy Bengali brother who going to make drug deals for Charlie. J. D. does crazy better than anyone I can think of.

Anyway, I want this movie for Best Picture. I know that other movies are in the pipeline, but I really want to see Bhardwarj accepting awards, Kapur accepting awards and the cinematographer with his mobile camera thanking the judges. Nothing I've seen so far is in the same level as this movie.

One other thing, probably what won my heart totally: This is the second movie where an actress sprayed bad guys with bullets from an automatic weapon, in the scene that began the climax. And I recognized right away that Priyanka was exactly who it should have been. Last time is was sexy Dimple Kapadian in Ram Lakhan, another gunfire charged climax. After that, I was totally won over. I wonder if Vishal remembers that unique scene, too. I thought I was the only one to remember it.

Anyway, I'm now rooting for Shahid from now to Filmfare. Others can root for whomever, but I want recognition for Shahid. Finally, he really deserves.
