Time for Sci-Fi acting catagories

It is time that the Emmy's finally carve out a place for Sci-Fi and not just for the untelivised Sci-Fi awards like costumes and effects. If the organization that runs the awards make me up a place for all the reality tv garbage that now floods the airwaves, it now needs to give Sci-Fi/Fantasy it's just due. In this past decade one of the most watched programs was Battlestar Galactica. It had a great cast lead by the stellar performances of Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell. How about the 7 years of great performances by the cast members of Star Trek spin off's ST/TNG and ST/DS9. Patrick Stewart and Avery Brooks were probably 2 of the best actors of the 1990's.

It is a shame that for whatever reason in Hollywood the last great prejudice is the failure to recognise the crediblity of Sci-Fi outside of costumes and special effects. Why is that period dramas like John Adams or Masterpiece Theatre drama are ALWAYS celebrated. Well just because the costumes maybe out there and the furture is technologically advanced, there are still amazing actors walking around those sound stages. In recent years I think the only Sci-Fi people that got nominated were David Duchovney and Gillian Anderson of X-Files and only because it was more contemporary and the stories they got nominated for also more contemporary. As many actors/producers/directors etc are on the voting committee's of the other award board like Oscar's, SAG and Golden Globes.
