I'd like to defend Will Chase for a moment.

Geez, apparently I am in the minority here. Because I do tend to prefer Will Chase in the role of Roger. Do I dislike Adam Pascal? Of course not. I think he is a very talented singer, but I think Chase is too. Many seem to hate on him for various reasons. But I think the widest reason is loyalty. This musical has built up such a loyalty to its original cast that anyone cast later than the OBC will fall short in most opinions, regardless of their vocal abilities. Get over it. They weren't the only ones with talent.

Others keep accusing Will Chase of "screaming" his notes and I find that to be only marginally true. He doesn't scream everything he sings, only a few lines/notes here and there because he injects them with the passion/emotion/anger that Roger's character is supposed to be filled with. Adam Pascal doesn't do this. Adam has a beautiful singing voice, though a bit throaty and nasal, giving him a somewhat "Nickelback" quality (yes, you can kill me later). Will's voice seems to be a little more refined, and yes, every so often a "shout" escapes him that would put the same emphasis on lines that - if spoken instead of sung - would warrant the same level of emotion. So sue the guy for committing to his character. His voice is powerful, not "screamy." It is clear and tenor, with a very strong vibrato, good qualities often found in edgier rock singers (Klaus Meine, Michael Sweet, Robin Zander all come to mind).

(That's Scorpions, Stryper and Cheap Trick BTW)
