I happily stand corrected.

I have never been fortunate enough to see Rent live, whether on tour or on Broadway. I was only introduced to Rent via the 2005 film. I fell in love with it, of course. And I thought that since the film was so well polished, the music so fully orchestrated, and the actors unconfined by the stage, that the stage production couldn't possibly be as good as the film.

But was I ever wrong. This viewing of the live production far surpasses the film by leaps and bounds. I will always love the movie. It is what introduced me to the phenomenon that is Rent. But the final cast was so incredible. With due respect to the OBC and the superb replacements that were cast in the film, the cast in this production seemed to embody the characters in ways I didn't really see in the originals. Particularly Roger and Mimi. Two characters I just didn't get into in the film.

And having loved Traci Thoms in the film as much as I did, it was a pleasure to see her here embracing the role of Joanne as she was meant to be portrayed.

The faces were fresh, the vocals were superb and the filming was top notch in my opinion. I am so thankful for the release of this DVD.

I too missed Rent on Broadway and I think I will never get into it as much as I would have had I seen it live, which is a massive shame. I like this DVD, but I am not entirely sure I can say more than that just yet, maybe I'm still processing it. It sucks living 16 000km from Broadway, but I'm planning to move to New York after I complete university, so I guess a toast to better shows to come that I can watch live?

From tidbits of the movie and camcorder vids of the original cast I've seen I have to say I like the final cast's Mark (Adam Kantor) better than the original Mark (Anthony Rapp) whose acting was, from what little I've seen very odd and unnatural.
