Worst Mimi ever

It nearly ruined the entire experience. She's not hot and she can't sing. Plus, she's 38 years old and she is playing a teenager!!

She looks like a tranny to me. Very rough face. Not sexy at all. And Mimi isn't black. And she certainly isn't a nearly 40 year old soap actor.

Mimi may be puerto rican, but if you actually go to puerto rico, there are dark skinned ricans there....they do exist.

the whole cast is pretty terrible, but she's the worst.

Clearly you never saw Simone in the role. As for her age, at the moment Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp are playing Roger and Mark on tour and they are about the same age.

Mimi is the only character whose age is ever made obvious in the play. Therefore it doesn't matter how old the others are.

By the same token, I thought the actress who played Mimi in this version was great.

Who said Mimi couldn't be black? Renee Elise Goldsberry certainly is not the first black actress to be playing Mimi. Melanie Brown was Mimi as was Saycon Sengbloh, Tamyra Gray, Jamie Lee Kirchner, Antonique Smith, and I know there's more to add to that list.

Mimi has been played by virtually every race in Broadway/Tour. Ava Gaudet (who is Jewish) understudied Mimi when she was playing Maureen. Cristina Ablaza, who is Filipina, played Alexi and understudied both Mimi and Maureen.

Maureen is also a role with which there has been great racial diversity. Most full-time Maureens have been white, but there have been many Maureens who were not white (in the sense of being of strictly European extraction): Yassmin Alers, Karmine Alers, Julie Danao, Antonique Smith, Erica Munoz, Karen Olivo, Tamara Podemski, and obviously Eden Espinosa, to name a few. Those who served as understudies for the role generally also understudied Mimi, since they were either Hispanic or could pass themselves off as Hispanic.

She was fantastic in the role.

Broadway isn't tied to casting by literal age (or even very close to it) like other mediums. A grown woman played Peter Pan; Idina and Kirsten are well beyond their school years in Wicked; it's all adults in Charlie Brown, etc...

And every casting call for the role of Mimi I have ever seen has specified EITHER African American OR Latino for the role. I believe the role has been played predominantly by AAs. Simone was a great Mimi and she was in her late 30s as well.

i actually think that Renée is a pretty good singer & she definitely has presence, but I have to admit that I like my Mimi a little rough around the edges. in a way it felt like she was too musical-theatre for RENT. but i may have been spoiled by Daphne & Rosario D. on the other hand, i totally wish Will Chase had been in the movie rather than Adam (who i loved on stage), because he pulled it all off, musically & dramatically. pretty awesome.

I thought this cast was amazing including Mimi, some people are just too closed minded and cant picture any other cast except the original, which is understandable since that would be how they first saw the characters portrayed, but that doesnt necessarily mean that every other cast sucks... and as for her being hispanic or black who cares? I wouldnt care if a white blonde chick was on stage playing Mimi as long as she's good and brings justice to the character. I don't think Renee is ugly and she definitely can sing. Broadway wouldnt cast someone who couldn't sing very very well... It's ridiculous for people to say someone on Broadway sucks, They wouldn't be on Broadway if they sucked

Mimi is most definitely Latina, I'm guessing Nuyorican (a Puerto Rican born and bred in NYC). Her surname is "Marquez," which is of Spanish origin. I think they've cast light-skinned black women 'cause they can pull off the "Latin look."

She looked like she was ready to murder Roger a few number of times. She's the scariest Mimi.
