I received my DVD in the mail yesterday and watched it right away. I saw this version when it was released in movie theatres as well. Will Chase is absolutely amazing. IMO he is the best member of a very good cast. I really liked the people that played Collins and Angel as well.
shareI loved Renee Goldsberry who played Mimi...her voice was just awesome. Justin Johnson who played Angel was also one of my favorites. Then again, I thought everyone did a fantastic job and they really did close with a great cast!
shareI have a soft spot for Traci Thoms. I enjoyed everyone more or less, but the guy who played Benny kind of annoyed me. He has this way of taking an almost ragged breath when he spoke or sang.

I saw her in Wicked Los Angeles in Dec 08 and Jan 09 and have been a big fan ever since.
I hate to admit that to me she didn't seem very friendly in person at the stage door, but it was late and she still took a picture with me and signed what I asked her to sign. It seemed the other cast was more happy and appreciative.
maybe I built myself up so much before hand.
I'm still a huge fan.
I have to give major props to Renee Goldsberry - I have never been a fan of Mimi except for when Daphne did the role ... but Renee made me like the character again.
I wasn't a fan of Eden Espinosa, she can sing, don't get me wrong - but I think Maureen should be you know ... HOT. Eden is attractive but she isn't exactly what the role requires, at least in my opinion.

Renee Goldsberry blew me away as Mimi. She was so amazing in that role. I also really like what Justin did to make the character of Angel fresh. I was also impressed by Adam Kantor.
I liked Eden as Maureen-especially her take on "Over the Moon". And I liked how Tracie was able to do quite a different version of Joanne as compared to her movie Joanne.

I got to see this cast live when I was in NYC last summer. Being there and seeing them live (especially Will Chase) is at the top of my musical theater experiences.
I just watched my new DVD for the second time tonight and loved, loved, loved it! (And like a baby cried through the special features.) This was such a special musical, and I'm happy to have seen this special cast perform it!

Their "Another Day" was soooo good (Cold chills!)
The movie made me think "Why should I feel sorry for you all whiners?"
But this version was a tearjerker!

Renee Goldsberry, hands down, out tonight and another day are amazing. I LOVED Eden's over the moon too! It was a fresh take on it.

I agree, having listened to the OBC recording, I didn't think anyone would top it. But I wasn't sold on Glory or Light my Candle, etc from the OBC.
Here, it was like I discovered it again. Mimi was amazing, and I was sold on every performance she was in. Absolutely amazing in the role. Glory was a new song to me and I think it was sold better than I've ever heard it.
Angel REALLY made me wish there was so much more. He played the role with such compassion, and holy crap the chemisty between him and Collins? WOW.
I was iffy on Mark and Maureen though. Mark was actually frustrating for me, he seemed to try way, way too hard and almost ruined some of it for me. And Maureen was... just too "harsh". And her butt doesn't even come close to comparing to Idina Menzel's butt from the movie ;)
Regardless, this was fantastic. I can't wait to watch the special features!
