Who's Been to the Life Cafe?

It was yummy! ^^

Me! It was delicious!!

YOUR FACE!!!

reply

Every time I've been to NYC I always go to the Life Cafe.

reply

As do I. Better question who's been to the Moondance diner? (while it was still there).

reply

Moondance diner isnt there anymore?

reply

I worked next to it for years, and their food sucked. Moondance only survived as long as it did, because of it's looks, not the food. It was a tourist attraction, and that was about it, I passed by during lunch time, and you'd alway find empty seats.

The location was pretty bad, as there isn't much else around here other than the Moondance, Chinatown is a bit of a walk from it, and that's the only other closest tourist sight.

ME!!! I signed the RENThead book, and sat at the booth in the back, so I could sit where all the RENT memoribelia was!!! Plus, the food was DELICIOUS!!!

Where was the Moondance Diner?

ME!!! I signed the RENThead book, and sat at the booth in the back, so I could sit where all the RENT memoribelia was!!! Plus, the food was DELICIOUS!!!

They had the most blandest burgers and fries I've ever tasted. I didn't even want to go in there to get my morning cup of coffee. How can they screw up coffee at 8:30am, it tasted like it was sitting on the burner for hours. The locals all hated the food there, that's why you don't see local people eating there.

It had a great atmosphere, I won't deny that, but the food, was just awful.

The Life Cafe is on the corner of E 10th and Ave B. Right across from Thompkins Square Park (another notable RENT location). They have a map with directions on their website. I went there on my RENT pilgrimage this year. It was awesome. I had my RENT shirt on, so the waitress sat me where she said Jonathan Larson always sat. I ordered Huevos Rancheros, with rice and beans and cheeze! No lie. It was Yummy!! I signed the RENThead Register and everything. I visited the site of the former Moondance Diner as well. It's think the address is 80 6th st. on the corner of Grand St. It was sad to see it gone. I also went to see Jonathan Larsons apartment building, and the New York Theater Workshop. Amazing trip. I suggest all of those places for any RENThead to visit.

Thanks! I'm going to NYC next year hopefully. :)

Thank you Jonathan Larson!

I went, it was an amazing place. i got a "Forever Jonathan" shirt there. I love the lifecafe. It was my first time in NYC and I made my family go there. One of the best days, but I also got to see Spring Awakening that night too!

Oh, I've been. Fantastic veggie burger and sweet-potato fries. Will go back. Signed the book, etc. Got a tee-shirt and a FOREVER JONATHAN poster- signed by the owners. Came there on the day they were doing onsite filming for the Finale B contest. Filmed my segment (didn't win- le sigh). Overall a FANTASTIC experience, will go back. Want to go back to NYC anyway, and really enjoyed my time in the East Village (More than anything else save Broadway/seeing RENT)

REALLY dark though. I need a well lit restaurant and the Life isn't well lit at all. Need to go back when I'm not in a RENThead haze.

The Life Cafe is now closed.

I heard it was closed. Too bad, I was there a couple of times. Good food & drinks, interesting location. The 1st time we went, we sat in a booth near the front and were looking at the Renthead books. Our waitress came over and said "You know you're sitting where he always sat, don't you?" No, we didn't and that was pretty cool.
Thank you, Jonathon Larson!
