So Good (spoilers)

I just loved this movie...Just intense and thrilling through the entire thing, long with being some what comedic in my opinion. And the ending such a shocker you get caught up in the movie just like they get caught up in the night and you just forger about the guy in the trunk

I've just seen this movie and I loved it! Awesome cast, great editing and compelling plot. It definitely deserves a worldwide theatrical release.

Very, very good movie indeed. Story, acting, cinematography, all good. 8/10

Look at the night sky, where does it end?

I gave it 9 as it totally blew away my expectations, pace and acting was great.

9 is a bit of an exaggeration. 9 is supose to be one of the best films you have ever seen and 10 is one of those films that you'll remember forever and almost redefined the way you look at films.

Having said that, I'd give this one a 7.5. Blows most of Hollywood thrillers out of the water.

I was very surprised by this independent film. Amazing script, good cinematography and perhaps even more important, good acting. That's where some indie films fail and in Brotherhood, the acting was pretty great, at least the 2 leads.

And yeah the pace was incredible and the atmosphere very intense.

just Awesome.

Also I just found out that jon foster who plays the fraternity leader is the brother of Ben Foster. That explains a lot about his acting ability.

reply

I'd have to agree with you, I went on the high and and gave it an 8.

Aside from that, the only person I thought that wasn't great at acting was Luke Sexton, who played Graham. I just wasn't convinced by him that he was racist or anything, I know he says he isn't, but it's obvious that he is. I just couldn't get into his acting...as far as everyone else though, they all did a great job.

Cool info on Jon Foster too, his brother is one of my favorite actors!

reply

yeah, ben foster is pretty talented.

As soon as the guy got into the trunk and the other stuff had happened, I immediately said to myself, "He's getting forgotten about and if he seriously drinks all of that alcohol like an idiot he's probably going to suffocate or die from alcohol poisoning." Sure enough, when I saw the car at the end of the movie I remembered the kid and then you hear the pounding. Pounded right before he died I guess...

It was very contrived how the story eliminated the most recognizable character who might jog our memory of the kid in the trunk. He just walked off after being told to "take one for the team," and at the time I kept thinking that the action didn't make any sense in the context of the scene.

In hindsight, there are at least two instances where the movie hints at the boy being left in the trunk. One of the lead characters kept asking, "What's that sound?" It was the kid pounding to get out.

reply

Well , the big girl was one of their first witnesses and the guy with the hat already knew she was upset and if anyone wanted to get them in trouble it would be her so I guess he just decided to deal with her, considering what they'd done to her.

I completely forgot about the sounds! The first time it happened I thought it was the recorder, i might have mixed it up or that was what the movie wanted us to think, but both times it think it happened so fast that i wasn't really able to hear so i couldn't think on what the sound could be.

one thing I found annoying was that the that kid was pounding all night and the moment the guy who who put him there came back he just died.it bothered me

reply

I liked it too. Unfortunatelty I never forgot about the guy in the trunk. Practically the moment he gets in the trunk I'm like "yep he's gonna get forgotten"

I could see how it would be a shock, but I kept remembering throughout the movie how he was in there...

On a side note, how did he die exactly? I noticed there was puke, I figured he just died of oxygen loss and the puking helped kil him or something. Would it be unrealistic for a person to survive a whole night in the trunk of a car? Can't you just kick out the tail light to get fresh air?

I figured he died of Aspiration Pneumonia- Breathing in his own vomit and therefore suffocating from his vomitus blocking his trachea and airway. The green-brownish vomitus on his chest and mouth indicates the mode of death. This all of course coupled with heavy drinking.

reply

Agreed. That and/or alcohol poisoning. I also predicted he was going to die (though after what he did to the overweight girl I'd hoped he'd die and be out of the gene pool). However, I had read at least one element was based on a documented actual incident. I remember the story on the news and a piece on 60 Minutes. A pledge died after being forced --well, not at gunpoint, I guess pressured in a better word-- to drink an ungodly amount of hard liquor, tossed in a trunk w/more liquor and told they wouldn't let him out till he polished it off. They drove around for awhile, left him alone, then at some point in the next few hours, he died of alcohol poisoning according to the coroner. I think Everclear was involved.

The parents filed charges against the 'brothers' directly involved in the hazing and filed a lawsuit against the University for condoning the practice of hardcore hazing. Yes, voluntarily drinking that much alcohol was dumb, but he did it because he trusted the frat knew what they were doing and would never make him to do something dangerous enough to kill him. Not sure how it was settled but at least it raised awareness of that kind of bullshlt... I hope, anyway.
