Does it make sense to give a movie that is supposed to shock and disturb you

1/10 because it shocked and disturbed you? No it doesn’t. At all.

That's true. If the movie disturbed you it did what it was meant to do. I loved it for that.

Yeah , but does the film have any actual merit? ( i havent seen it surprisingly)
I'm guessing the filmmakers just thought:
"Lets make a film the most horriffic sick shit we can think of , that way it'll gain notoriety and views"

There is no substance to the film, like you may find in a Gaspar Noe depiction. Instead, it's just a series of scenes designed to lead us to the penultimate scene which, as the original poster suggests, is only designed to shock the audience.

It succeeds in shocking you, I believe, especially given the film is a decade old now, but there is no lesson to be told, no morality tale, just vacuity.

This is my opinion, of course. Maybe someone else saw something I didn't. There is an element of subjectivity with films, I guess.

Well the only reason the movie is so disturbing is cause it does such a great job establishing these characters and immersing us into the world and culture it's presenting. If it was just crazy shock schlock being splashed across the screen, it could be easily dismissed.

There's some that also believe the film is heavily steeped in political and social history metaphors and there's a lot of evidence for that. Either way the flilmmakers put a lot of thought into this. They weren't just trying to be edgy. This movie has a lot to say.
