The Searchers

Was anyone else a little baffled at how The Searchers was shown as comparably racist to The Birth of a Nation?

It's like they didn't bother to watch Ford's film, because THE ENTIRE POINT of it was that Ethan's philosophy wasn't right.

It was more sympathetic than most at the time (in fact was allegorical to the treatment of African Americans at the time) and Ford did hire Native American actors, but they did not speak the language of the Commanche and were in fact Navajo and are were given no speaking parts. Scar was in fact played by a German actor. It also played into the stereotypes at the time, plus it was alright to show them dead, but never the whites. The racism is less overt than BoaN, but it is still there.
